Taxes at NRT?
A question just out of curiosity...
I was looking at J flights AKL-LHR and noticed that JAL have a very good deal flying via NRT. When JAL join OW next year it seems like the best route to go to clock the miles : AKL-NRT is a 777 codeshare with NZ, and NRT-LHR is also 777, full lie-flat seats as opposed to QF, TG, Emirates. Anyway, the quick question is why are taxes so high flying via NRT? They're nearly double other airlines on the regular routings (SIN, BKK, etc). Is this the high cost of NRT or is it peculiar to flying JAL? |
JL has very high fuel surcharges, probably that is the reason for the high cost. As for flying on a JL codeshare that is not OW-operated, that will not earn miles on any FF plan other than JL (codeshares must be on OW metal to get OW benefits). The JL FF plan is quite poor compared to other OW airlines, fwiw.

Oh well, the price is too good to worry about a few points :) |
I'm not a member of QFF so I'm curious about this codeshare issue.
Please see this: http://qantas.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/q...hp?p_faqid=249 Doesn't it say there all flights with a QF flight number earn points, including codeshares?. I see no exclusions. |
OP wants to credit JL codeshare on NZ to QFF ... you are referencing crediting QF codeshare on xx to QFF ... completely different case and rules. At the moment QF doesn't codeshare on NZ for AKL-NRT flights! Though the way QF/NZ are going, that might be imminent.

D'oh! I just checked the QFF rules and it says that you earn points as long as the ticket has a flight number of QF or any OW airline, subject to a list of conditions - none of which mention codeshares being an exception. Then you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the rules, and then it does mention the codeshares as exceptions in the OW airline tables. Very sneaky, Qantas. Oh well, the price is too good to worry about a few points :) |

Although, if you're departing from SYD you might have better deals than we do. Usually the cheapo J seats from here are on Malaysian, Thai or Emirates, with the standard seating, and/or some bizarre routing requirement. |

Edit to add: Im not sure that AY deal works at certain times of the year. |

Just thought JL would be a good way to scarf a few points when they join OW. |

Anyway, thanks for the tip on zuji, I might investigate those deals a bit closer. Any experience with J on TG? I've never been all that impressed with their Y. |
