Question Currently in the middle of a RTW...need advice/help on date changes

Background: I am currently in BCN in the middle of a RTW trip using my AA miles. Tomorrow I have a flight from FCO-BCN(stopover)-IST. I did not make it to Rome today like I planned because I lost my passport but I have already been issued a temporary passport.

There is no way I will make it to FCO tomorrow to catch my flight at at 7:45 am. But I can make the BCN segment because it is at noon and I am in BCN.

I already have the paper tickets. Can I just throw away my FCO-BCN segment and use the BCN-IST tomorrow or will my absence on the FCO-BCN segment cancel out the rest of my future segments?

If I cannot do this will I be able to do the date changes after I have missed my flight tomorrow morning? If I do have to make date changes I would have to do that at an AA ticket office...Is that correct? Where is the nearest AA ticket office, Madrid?

It sounds like you are using a OW award issued by AA ... and those do not allow any routing changes, only date changes. You must fly all sectors in the original sequence and on the airlines as ticketed. You can rebook using the 800 number. They can endorse the date change on the PNR so that the paper tickets do not need to be reissued (though this might vary by airline, and presumably you are flying IB which tends to be sticky on paperwork). So by the rules you have to fly to FCO and resume your ticket for a later date (when award inventory is available). I don't know what flexibility AA might have to make an exception to the rules for a voluntary reroute (this is no problem for involuntary reroutes, but you don't have that situation).

Are you flying Iberia from BCN to IST? I thought that Iberia is on strike this week.

Thumbs up

I called up AA yesterday and got the FCO-BCN-IST segment moved to the next available date, July 19. Not bad I think, I only got delayed about 1 week. I need to go to the AA ticket office at the FCO Airport Terminal C (open only from 8am - noon) to change the paper tickets. Thanks for all your help and advice.
