Does AA really offer PUJ-LAX onestop service?
 

Hi...

I'm trying (again) to find a creative way around the 1-transcon-only rule within NA on a OWE. In both the AA and the OneWorld PDF timetables, I've been able to find PUJ-LAX (with one stop), but when I search AA.com (by schedule), the route doesn't actually show up as bookable as single flight number. What gives?

One-stop direct flights always show as two separate lines on aa.com, but that's just the way they format the information. In this case AA1830 does exist and can be taken as one OWE segment. Good catch, by the way, I didn't know about that one. Thanks!

Edited to add: (a) this is one flight I would most definitely protect with a dated coupon. (b) the options available for a non-transcon Central America/Caribbean JFK-XXX-LAX triangle are so few that this flight is a great find.

Sorry, but it appears to be two segments and flights.

AA1830 only seems to go to MIA and does not continue onto LAX. You have to take a connection. Two flight numbers = two segments.

What makes you think that? AA1830 shows as a direct, one stop, single flight number, service between PUJ and LAX on aa.com, ExpertFlyer, OW Timetable, AA PDF Timetable,...

Is it also available going eastbound?

As far as I can see, on all the dates I have tried, no, unfortunately.

Well, I just got off the phone with QF who tried to book this for me, and they said that the onestop service is only available until 29-OCT


Oh, and since I'm unable to take advantage of this (as I'm only able to make the trip in very early January (say Jan. 1 or 2), I'd be much obliged to any of you if you could sugges an alternative "non-transcon Central America/Caribbean JFK-XXX-LAX triangle"

I have looked at this, and regret to say I cannot find anything at all for january.

You are likely to run into problems trying to ticket an open dated segment for a flight that does not exist 'logically' within your itinerary (like what happens with ANC, for example).

Here is the latest list of 'transcons' from the OWE schedule (all flights > 2000 miles):

Note SJU-ANC (4900 miles!) is in the schedule currently, though only for a few weeks.

hauteboy, I am confused on this one, too. Is this a list of long flights that are not considered transcons?

However, it seems to have identical data to the AA PDF timetable (although in a much more convenient format!).

The flight from PUJ to LAX, listed in both places doesn't have an end date. However, it's only bookable through 29-October (as a QF res. agent told me).

So, some questions:
1) Where did you get the list anyway?
2) How can one probe further ahead in the schedule than August? (For example, say, to obtain a list of ALL flights departing in January on AA [or LA?] metal from Caribbean/Central America?)

You see, hauteboy is the author of the great tool OWE Itinerary Validator, aka MileageMonkey. The list you see comes from the data his sofware parses out of the datafile that comes with the OW Electronic timetable; he 'sees' inside that file what us mere mortals cannot, and is kind enough to pass it to us in a format we can digest. :)
