*ONE* - Extra Segment Costs Question

Hey - I tired doing a search but nothing came up. With the new *one* fares, does anyone know what happens to the extra segment costs?

I bought a DONE4 xIST and want to add an extra 2 segments on my NA Routes (already at 6). I called BA RTW desk for a quote and they said $400 per segment, but I told them since I bought it x IST shouldn't it be quoted in EUR. They stated that all extra segments are $400 + tax and then converted into the currency of the country of origin.

Can someone verify this??

thnx

Is it true that if one has an AONE ticket then the extra segment has to be purchased at the first class segment cost even if one may prefer to pay and be willing to fly economy on that segment?

71N . 3. FLIGHT SEGMENTS BEYOND THE NUMBER PERMITTED AT
72N . THE THROUGH FARE MAY BE PURCHASED IN THE SAME
73N . OR LOWER CLASS OF SERVICE THAN THAT OF THE
74N . ONEWORLD EXPLORER.

The catch if you buy extra segments in a lower class of service is that the airline picks which segments you have bought and which are in your *ONE* fare. So you could wind up with L on the trans-continental segment, and use the D/A on that single-class JFK-BOS CRJ flight. AA seems the most reasonable about this, while BA usually (but not always) insists that the first 6 segments for NA are in the fare and the purchased ones come after that (no matter when they were actually purchased).

More bad news on the extra sector front.

I tried to add an economy European sector to me AONE5 prior to my final included sector. The AA RTW desk agent told me "that they had just received clarification on this issue this week, and the rule is that your included sectors must all be used prior to any purchased sectors" - so if you buy an extra flight in a lower class of service, it has to be your last flight in that area.

Just want to make sure I understand this before calling the RTW desk for my latest itinerary change.

So if I'm buying a seventh segment in North America, as long as its the last segment before I go JFK-HKG I'm ok?

This might actually work out ok if I'm to take the BOS-JFK puddle jumper before that flight. While RTs are now in the $120 range, would be safer to have a segment I could move without restriction if needed.

Check prices for regular tickets first. What i found: usually - especially when you have short segments - it is cheaper to buy them seperate from your RTW.
As long as you don't have only long segements in the US take the two shortest segments and price them seperately. Downside is that you dont get the 2 pieces 32 kg each baggage allowance.
