Help please for a newcomer!

I am planning a RTW trip using as follows

Emirates to BKK, separate ticket

Then AONE4:
BKK to SYD
7 days stopover
SYD to LAX
1 day stopover
LAX to Miami
3 days stopover
Miami to LHR
-all in Feb and March

Now comes the difficult bit. I am based in Edinburgh, and will not use the final LHR to BKK segment until October.

I am told that I cannot have more than one stopover in the same city. Is that correct? I do not see it in the rules.

If only one stopover per city is allowed, and so I cannot use Edinburgh as a hub, am I allowed to do the following:

on arrival into LHR from Miami, BA to EDI (transit at LHR, not stopover).

Weeks later, EDI to CDG, stopover, then CDG to GLA

Weeks later GLA to FRA, stopover, then FRA to Manchester

Travel to Edinburgh from GLA overland, from Manchester by BD, and from EDI to LHR with BD to connect with fligth to BKK.

I know I would have to buy 1 additional segment for this.

Is this within the rules?

Is it OK to use other BA flights, paid for separately, during a stopover period?

Do LHR and LGW count as one for stopover purposes? Are overland (or other carrier) transfers to return to a stopover point allowed. In the route desribed above, I would arrive into Manchester, but depart ex LHR

Either you were told incorrectly, or you misunderstood the statement.

On a OWE starting in BKK, you can take whatever flights you like within Europe, as long as there are only 4 of them (and no more than 2 between LHR and the faraway places, none of which are in your plans). Stopovers are not relevant, it's only segments that count in this case. (Note that you also buy 2 extra segments, which might or might not be a good deal given alternative means of getting where you want to go.)

It is possible that either you or your information source confused OWE tickets with OneWorld award tickets. For the latter, there is indeed a restriction that allows only 1 stopover in any city.

There is no limit on the number of stopovers in a city....but using AONE segments for intra-UK flights is far from the best value you could get out of the ticket (especially if you need to buy additional segments due to them).

It is not correct. There is no 'one stopover only' rule. You can have more than one stopover, the exact number depending on other rules.

Perhaps you called the general BA number, not the RTW desk? In any case it is not surprising, the OWE is quite a beast when it comes to taming its many rules. I suggest you take a look at the sticky above, the one with the FAQ.

StarAlliance RTW fare such as STAR1, STAR2, STAR3 has one stopover per one city restriction, and maximum 3 transfer at same city restriction.
However, AONE/DONE/LONE Oneworld Explorer fare does not have such restrction. Sometimes, people are confused.

I use following route a few times.

CAI-xLHR-HKG-NRT-HKG-NRT-HKG-(-NRT-HKG-)-YVR-...-CAI
(-NRT-HKG-) is extra paid additional segments.

In this case, I stopover at HKG 4 times, fly HKG->NRT 3 times.
No problem.
