Best One World FF prog for me?

I dont intend to gain any status with OW. Do most of my flying with *A. However, I do take the odd BA domestic flight and often a BA or AA UK-US flight (Cheapest economy). I would like a program that lets me get the maximum miles on transatlantic BA/AA flights and on BA UK Domestic flights. I might in a couple of years do a RTW so I would like to collect miles on BA/CX/QF/AA.

Which program would best suit my needs (casually collecting miles over the years)?

QANTAS most likely.

Because if you take a mixture of BA and AA flights, you can't really stick with either one of their programmes as they don't allow you to accrue mileage on the others' transatlantic flights. On QF's programme you do.

BA's inter-European flights don't earn very much miles due to the fare. SO check out your fares carefully before you buy. QF is also FFP partners with SWISS, and ALITALIA in Europe in addition to other ONeworld members as well.

One can earn AA miles on BA transatlantic flights to/from Canada, Mexico, and South America. The only BA transatlantic flights one cannot earn AA miles on are to/from the US.

BA - yes albeit with reduced mileage (incl minimum mileage) and tier points
AA - no

OTOH you might think about buying one of your transatlantics on AA at a slightly higher fare, set up a Platinum Challenge and go for status, even if OW isn't your main squeeze. You'd get miles on BA inside Europe, even on a couple of BA/AA US-UK codeshares I think (ORD-MAN being one that I believe is exempt from the "no transatlantic credit" rule) and you'd also get access to numerous OW lounges as a Sapphire. Getting 10,000 q-points traveling transatlantic isn't that big a stretch, depending on where in the US you visit.

Not just to earn Miles they don't. CX splits their FF programme in two. AsiaMiles (which is free) is what you use to earn and redeem miles. If you are after OW status then you add the Marco Polo Club which offciially costs US$50 (one time), although many have avoided the fee one way or another. Since you have said you are just interested in collecting miles over time then you wouldn't need MPC. However, AsiaMiles expire after 3.x years regardless of activity so they may not work for you for that reason.

Yes you can on AA. But not much on BA if you're based in UK. And you can't if it's the other's flights to/from US.

CX makes you pay $50 to join their MArco Polo Club programme. It's free if you don't want to earn status then join Asiamiles. Asiamiles also expire after 3 years. So that is why I suggested you try QANTAS' FFP!
