OWE Question: First segment

I am thinking of buying a OWE in business class but have a question....

Is it possible to go backwards (!) in the first segment, e.g.

NRT-HKG-JFK instead of say NRT-JFK direct?

Maybe a weird question, but I have my reasons

You may. It would not be classed as backtracking.
You are allowed a maximum of 2 stopovers in continent of origin with the remaining sectors being transits of less than 24hrs. 4 sectors total in Asia so you can utilise them at the start or end of your RTW. You cannot purchase additional sectors in continent of origin.

As mentioned above, yes you can.

However, maybe you know well, AA168 is only OW direct flight for NRT-JFK.
AA7200, and AA7222 are code share flights operated by JAL.
So, you can not use these flights for part of OWE.
Have a nice trip.

Thanks for the pointer. Yes, I knew that. Pity though, I would rather fly JAL than AA....

Well yes, actually, that is what I was thinking of doing.... hopefully with a stop in HKG as I can't stop on the way back.
