Thanks jerry a.laska for the detailed explanation. Actually PEK-PVG should have been Cabotage flight, not Fifth Freedom as it is within the same country. Fifth Freedom flights are not uncommon, but Cabotage flights are virtually unheard of.

They were also doing IAH-IAD if memory serves me correctly. Though I've not checked for a while and this may not be the case now.

The intra-US segment is part of BA's IAH-LHR service.
The other two daily flights from Houston are IAH-LGW.

I also left some other flights out:
LP
LP PUJ-MIA
LP UIO-BOG

You can fly QF's JFK - JLAX service and disembark at LAX..so long as you then continue on to Oz.

You don't have to continue on to Australia - so long as your ticket is international, e.g. owe's, you can use this flight (and v.v.) as one of the N.A. segments.
