Link RTW ticket with a separate booking reservation

Hi flyertalk experts,

I recently booked a OW RTW ticket starting from CAI. When I made the booking, I was not allowed to book CAI-AMM-DOH-HKG. But I was able to book CAI-AMM, and DOH-HKG. As a result, I have to buy a separate ticket from AMM to DOH.

I am wondering, if I book a separate ticket from AMM to DOH, am I allowed to link this reservation to the existing RTW ticket? If this works, I don’t have to enter Jordan and re-check in my luggage in AMM, which will save a lot of time.

So called linking is just text in a reservation. Does not confer the benefits of all flights in a single PNR, like protection on late flights and baggage interlining. The text may or may not be read.
Baggage interlining on separate PNR's/tickets depends on the airline.

I'm guessing you might have been in a rush just to ticket something while this was fading away, but you can (well could at the time) definitely route CAI-AMM-DOH-HKG on the OW tool, but it had to be done rather manually. It would however ticket as a connection in AMM. Just for future reference the Booking and Pricing sticky thread is really useful for getting advice if you get stuck in the OW Tool on something like that.

Generally it seems too late to change the ticket now because of the reprice, but if you'd have mentioned that problem last week I'd likely had advised to get it changed to CAI-DOH-HKG and drop RJ, but guessing you're on a QF ticket and they've been saying they're not going to make routing changes on these ex-CAI tickets anymore because of the fare change.

I've never attempted separate ticket through check in with RJ, they may or may not do it so be prepared to buy the Jordanian visa and be pleasantly surprised if you don't have to. Since Jordan is on the high side for visa costs, it is a bummer to buy it just to go re-check in but they aren't required to through check luggage. QR however will very likely do it if you do end up checking in in AMM, so you won't have to retrieve it in DOH.

Thank you. Yes this is ticketed by Qantas. I tried to create CAI-DOH-HKG but the tool said that the first segment cannot be operated by QR, and I had to book CAI-AMM with RJ instead.

I contacted QF after the original ticket is confirmed and issued, and they tried to add another segment from AMM to DOH operated by RJ. I am able to see this segment on my PNR, however, it says ticket is confirmed but is not issued. From what I was told, QF is not able to reprice this ticket.. I am curious whether I need to call them to remove this unissued CAI-AMM segment, or just leave it as it is?

I may have to leave enough time for the layover in AMM to avoid any delays or the unexpected :(

Thanks! I will prepare enough time for layover then :/

QF have a well know problem of changing the reservation, but then (sometimes) not reissiung the ticket in the time allowance, so the changes auto cancel due to not re-ticketed. Has caused major problems for some QF passengers.

So my original ticket will not be affected, and this newly added segment which is not issued will be canceled. Am I understanding correctly?

Also, can you help elaborate on the well know problem of changing the reservation for QF? Thanks!

Many QF agents are new (since CV19) and poorly trained on more complex tickets with detailed rules. With luck your phone call may get answered in AKL (reported as having better service), and not in MNL, NAN or CPT. With QF anything can happen. They may re-ticket or not re-ticket.

Correct the OW tool would give that error for CAI-DOH directly, you had to ticket it via AMM then change it after ticketing to CAI-DOH which is allowed. But with the fare increase I don't think you can still do that now.

If it's in the PNR I'd keep pushing them to get it ticketed and see what happens. Worst case you still end up with your stopover and open segment, best case you actually will have it on one ticket. For the same reason above though, you might not be able to get it done anymore. But you're going to have to get an agent in NZ or OZ to get it I imagine, if you get Fiji just hang up and try again.

This is really helpful. Any recommendation on how to tell where the agent is from :/

Accent.
Ask them "so how is the weather in Nadi today?" ;)
I not in Nadi highly likely they will tell you where they are or are not.

Hi Flyertalk experts, given that my RTW ticket is CAI-AMM, DOH-HKG, ..., I need to purchase a ticket AMM-DOH myself.

CAI-AMM is operated by RJ business, and I am planning to redeem AMM-DOH economy with Alaska miles (also operated by RJ). Given that both flights are operated by RJ, is it possible for me to request my luggage to check through DOH at CAI?

That's up to the operating carrier -- perhaps better to ask this question in the Middle East airlines forum?
