OW drops to 3rd largest alliance ?
According to this thread, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum35/HTML/007293.html
following the AF/KL merger, the OW alliance is now in third place behind SkyTeam (*A is still no 1). Do we believe it? |
A little secret....Lat time real comparisons came out, OneWorld was only one percentage point or so ahead of Skyteam. It is most likely that Skyteam already passed OneWorld last October or so. With KLm coming on board it is only a bit behing *, and after NW and CO join it will be far ahead.

No way! For 2003 here are the RPKs flown by each alliance partner as reported to and by ATW (in thousands);

It all depends upon what criteria they are basing it on. Second largest in terms of passengers flown, daily flights, aircraft, capacity, etc. If it is based upon daily flights they might be right.
As of 1/1/2004 Oneworld had 7,909 daily departures (including Swiss): http://www.oneworld.com/pressroom/se...s/F000cd01.doc Without KLM, Skyteam had 7,865 in the summer of 2003: http://www.skyteam.com/EN/aboutSkyte...fact_sheet.pdf With KLM it is possible under this standard that they are larger. |
