Comments requested on Pacific flight plan

(cross posted in QF forum)

Esteemed community.....

Hoping that some of you that know about these things can give me some comments on a couple of flight plans I am putting together for February.

First of all, I am due to fly to SYD-HKG-PEK-NRT-SYD. I will then have one night at home before flying SYD-CHC-WLG-AKL-SYD. At the moment, both trips are being costed separately. However, I am wondering if it would make any sense to combine them into one trip being SYD-HKG-PEK-NRT-CHC-WLG-AKL-SYD.

Is there a One World fare that would cover this sort of trip? Would Business Class be cost effective (when compared to a series of individual economy fares)?

All thoughts and comments welcome.

It doesn't appear as though there is a OW fare that fits your itinerary. The Circle Pacific and Circle Indian Ocean trips might be usable but they would require adding a continent to your trip (NA or Africa) and have limitations that could make them impractical.

Does HNL count as NA? If so, perhaps I could go from NRT to CHC via HNL.

HNL is NA but you can't get there from NRT (JL code share is not allowed). Only international OW flight out of HNL is to SYD. Anyway, stopover limits on CIRCPAC fare would not fit your trip.

I don't know what your individual trips will cost out at but if you did do a OWE it would be four continents and cost around A$3000 in economy and A$9200 in business. To meet the OWE rules your itinerary would need to look something like SYD-HKG-PEK-HKG-NRT-ORD-LHR-HKG-AKL-CHC-WLG-AKL-SYD. I doubt you could actually do the NRT-ORD-LHR-HKG-AKL-CHC segments in the 48 hours you seem to have between trips and I sure wouldn't recommend doing it in economy.

That is ceratinly not a trip that I would look forward too. However, NRT-LAX-AKL-CHC might be feasible. Do you think that would work within the terms of the Circle Pacific fare?

SYD-HKG-PEK-HKG-NRT-LAX-AKL-CHC-WLG-AKL-SYD would seem to fit into a xCIR26 fare. You get a total of five stopovers on that fare and a max of two per region. You can buy an addtional two per region for A$150 each. I think the economy fare is A$3739(plus taxes) and business is A$8249.

ExMo, you're a legend! One quick final Q, why would I need to go back to HKG after PEK? Cant I fly direct from PEK-NRT?

I don't think there is a oneworld flight direct from PEK to NRT, you have to route through HKG.

You are limited to the routes Cathay Pacific fly (and AA-BA-QF-LA)

With a circle pacific there may be more codeshare partners allowed than for a RTW OW Explorer

As previously noted, there are no OW flights between PEK and NRT. In fact, CX just started flying HKG-PEK a few months ago. Code shares on non-OW carriers are not allowed on CIRPAC fares.
