JNB or GIB Travel Agents

Hello All,

I am nearing the purchase time frame for my
next OWE.

I want to experiment a bit this time and book the ticket in JNB or GIB to take advantage of the strong dollar.

Any recent tips on TA's in JNB or GIB that anyone care to post?

Thanks

I'm working with Bland Travel in GIB (big, reliable company, that also owns GB Airways).

The TA is Henry Casciaro: [email protected] I haven't heard back from him about my ticket yet so cannot comment on efficiency etc. I would be interested in your experience (my email is in my profile). I was advised by other FTers to book direct with the airlines and set the ticket up for issue and payment at the airport. I'm trying that too...

Why do you want to get a OWE ex-South Africa? Some time ago the prices hiked big time to where they are no longer a good deal compared to almost anywhere. Did something change back that I missed?

Because of the continued weakness in the Rand-- S.A. is still cheaper than all but a handful of other places-- say it's in the "top-ten" as it were. Obviously nowhere near as cheap as it was at the beginning of this year.

Right now it seems like the fares ex-S.A. are about the same as ex-Euroland, for example. Unless Africa is anyway in your travel plans you also end up paying for an extra continent in addition to the cost of getting there to start the trip (and Africa is not an optimal continent for maximising OWE mileage). I'm still not convinced of the upside.

All - I used this email address for a quote and Henry came back next working day with a quote for the tickets - almost half the regular UK price, and as per the Few Miles site. Will fly down and collect the tickets before returning straight back to the UK.

Now all I need is for my boss to confirm the work in DEL is on and I can then get on and book the flights http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry Lux, I've not been on the site for a while (earning a living!).

Henry did a fine job, though it took BA about a week to confirm pricing. I'm pleased DP-UK got a price straight away - maybe because the agent has a recent quote from BA?

Another reason for not posting my experience is I haven't got my tickets yet (coming via mail). I'll continue to post my experiences when I have them.

For info, I was advised on other forums that the OWE price out of GIB has gone up since it was last updated on Fewmiles' site. Not true! AONE4 is still GBP3999 and AONE5 is GBP 4599. Glad to see BA is still cutting breaks for those of us crazy enough to fly out to GIB to use them... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I sincerely doubt that is their intention in this instance. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I foresee a fare increase for GIB 6 months after someone from BA reads this post!

All - to confirm all the GIB prices shown on the http://members.shaw.ca/fewmiles/oneworld/ site are current.

In the end my company got a fare for my work trip to DEL which made it too expensive for me to pay the difference for an AONE on this occasion http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Oh well there's till next year http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Any chance on oneworld lowering the fares ex-South Africa? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif With the rand now over 30% stronger than it was just a year ago, the 6-continent costs nearly as much as ex-USA now...
