You might be able to nail them on a technicality if there was a single flight number in either of those cases, though frankly, I think they would just refuse to price and issue the ticket.

General rule is that if you touch the continent, you will pay for the continent. You can also see this by the fact that no African, SWP, or South American countries offer fares for 3 continents. They can't.

So in other words:

Get off the plane and visit Bangkok! If you are going to pay for the trip why not use it 100%!

Or Hong Kong, or Singapore, or Tokyo, or Taipei, or any other connecting point between SWP and Europe.... But yeh, I agree with your point. Heck, stop in JNB or CPT if you want, as you are still paying for a continent.
