Help me Maximise my remaining RTW.
Hi all, my RTW is going super smooth.
Have done: ICN-HKG-YYZ-LHR-MAD-IBZ-BCN-HEL-NRT and now have left on my ticket NRT-HKG-ICN . What can I do here to get the most out of this? I can add segments for $$$??? I can just change HKG to another dest with a reissue? If I change HKG to BKK for instance I would (by virtue of CX being HQ in HKG) have to transit in HKG to get back to ICN. Saying this, would by changing my destination to BKK be considered NOT to be a segment added? I mean it would be very obvious that to get to ICN I would have to transit in HKG, but would that be considered another segment, or just part and parcel??? And I only get one stopover before I have to get to ICN, right? fun as always! RDP |
What do you mean by "to get the most out of this"? Most miles? The reason I'm asking is that it looks like the routing so far has been chosen to minimise miles. AFAIK, all segments count, whether involuntary transit or not. I think about the only thing you can do without going above the 4-segment limit is NRT-HKG-TPE-ICN. But, it doesn't add very many miles and since they probably charge you for a routing change anyway it may be worth it to pay a little more to add a segment. If you want to maximise the mileage Colombo, Karachi, or Mumbai would do a better job than Bangkok for the same number of segments.

Good points. Do you recall what the segment chgs. are right now? I recall USD 125 or somwhere around there........
RDP |
it had been $75 fo segment change. not sure if it had been raised.
if u only want to pay the segment change, it would be changing NRT-HKG to NRT-TPE-HKG. i wouldn't advise it as there is not much gain. your can add HKG-BKK but you need to add one more segment and pay for that. (still not a very bad deal) to get "most" out of that extra dollar, i think DPS is as nice and a lot more miles than BKK. you can also go to Delhi/Bombay, even further away, but i do not know the (living)condition there after you deplaned there. i assume DPS is a lot more enjoyable |
If I am not mistaken, an American also needs a visa to enter India. You don't list your "from", and I dont remember if you have ever said where you live. Anyway, unless it is a turnaround trip with sterile transit, this might pose a problem.

RDP - when was your ticket issued and when did you travel your first sector between ICN and HKG?
Because if you issued your ticket last year before the changes, you are allowed 5 sectors within Asia. By which case, you used ICN-HKG, and then you can now do: NRT-HKG-DPS-HKG-ICN. But if you issued this ticket this year, under the new rules, you are only allowed 4 sectors. So you'd have to do only NRT-TPE-HKG-ICN. If you didn't stop over in HKG when you took your RTW, then you'd be entitled to another stop somewhere along the route. Reissue fee is US$100 based on new rules. |

In May it was still $75 (after rule changes, of course). Is it $100 now?

Wow, you are all too helpfull!
My situation: Ticket was booked in MAY this year. Ticket was bought in June this year. First segment ICN-HKG was on June 16th. HKG was NOT a stopover. Just simple transit for HKG-YYZ. So where does that leave me??? I'm confused now....... I am ASSUMING that the new rules give me 2 stopovers in continent of orgin. Is this correct? I have used ONE and that is here, right now, in Japan (NRT). I am assuming I have ONE stopover left. Or do I have 2? The remainder of my tix. look like this: NRT-HKG-ICN. was thinking of maybe changing to NRT-HKG-DPS(stopover)-HKG-ICN or NRT-HKG-Columo-(then seperate to Maldives)-HKG-ICN for both cases it looks like 2 extra segments. Is that right? Guy Betsy: Your comment on stopover vs. segments is confusing me. If I am allowed 4 sectors under the new rules, that's fine, but how would me NOT stopping over in HKG (just a pure transit) on the way out affect my available segments? RDP |
RDP, one flight number is one segment. Yes, the 2 stopover rule is in effect, and the rationale is that the third "stopover" is when you stop. So your third stopover is where you begin and end. You are probably under the new rules.

Darren, ok that's what I thought.
So let's go with your thinking. I am allowed 1 more stopover (only 1 so far, here at NRT).The final (stopover) is the end of the trip at ICN. BUT, I want to change my stopover to a place which will require 2 more segments. So USD $200 ? Not bad at all....... So NRT-HKG-ICN will become NRT-HKG-???-HKG-ICN ........NEW.NEW.... .........1...2..... So, I am not changing the ROUTING of any of the existing segments, JUST adding 2 more. Which even when done will keep me within my stopover allowance in the country of orgin. Think I got it....... :-0 Only one thing: For adding segments can I do that at the local CTO, where they will take the USD $charge and use the interback rate? Or is it the same as when you originally purchase the ticket (it has to be the orgin country, or you will be upchagred to the local fare/fees)? I would think that they should be able to add segments. Why should they care why you are doing it? You are flying coach? Ouch... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
You should be able to take care of it at a CTO with no problem. I wouldn't go to an AA office, because they will send it to tariffs in DFW or DUB, who will screw it up 15 times before issuing you a new rate. Trust me (and many others) on this one. I don't know about the others, though BA was pretty efficient with me when they had to correct a mistAAke. They also didn't charge me, though there were extenuating circumstances with mine. Serial Stupidity, as an Irishman one said to me. The rate should be current, not from when you first did it. Have fun. Wish I was going, not ending. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif If you are *actually* doing a stop, rather than just a turnaround, Bali is nice and occupancy is down in parts of the island at the moment so it is still reasonably cheap. Just left there, and it was very pleasant. The only blanket suggestion I will give is to get out of Kuta and Sanur unless you want to party all night and hang out with a bunch of drunk Aussies. I have not been to India or Pakistan, so I don't know what they are like. Surabaya is also pretty, and less expensive, but I enjoyed Bali more. |
1. any OW airline, any local office can re-issue your tickets
(but then you need to take into the consideration that the expertise and rule itnerpretation may differ by different airline/office) 2. you can choose which one is you new segment. so if one of your segment is in coach (e.g. D is unavailable or you choose the shortest segment to fly coach instead). you are only charged the segment price for the class of travle of that (cheapest) segment 3. pricing. based on the currency of the country of issuance (in your case Korean Won). the difference is then converted to the currency in your country of re-issue, using the interbank rate. this is the same for any IATA ticket re-issuance, i suppose [This message has been edited by pegasus8228 (edited 07-16-2001).] |
Pegasus:
Ref Point 1: Point taken!!! Ref Point 2: And a segment is a segment right? $???USD will equal a segment, no matter where I go on that flight number? Ref Point 3: So unlike when I bought the ticket originally there will be no 'upcharge' to the local rate (Japan, if I HAD bought my ticket there....). Just 1segment=USD100>KRW>JPY @ Interbank. So I don't have to go to Korea..... :-) So a reissue is 100USD. A segment is how much? RDP |
