OW Transatlantic Carrier on AA Miles

Booking a business class ticket using AA miles. Only Aer Lingus BWI-DUB or JFK-HEL are available. As I can't use BA, which OW carrier would you recommend for better business travel?

i don't understand, it's may & no upgrades seem to be available. why do we have to sweat out getting the upgrades? i personally don't care because coach seats fit me better than business. but my family wants to be in front [ or almost ]

iberia flys to spain but i don't know what you want to do. please come up with a plan & we will work with you.

Transatlantic oneworld options... apart from EI, there is also AY and IB (but you know what ppl think about Iberia http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif !)

Have you also considered puchasing a revenue ticket and getting an upgrade award? (It'll count for Q-miles that way!)

Actually I am going to Spain in June and AA only offers 1 flight via Miami which seems to always be sold out. Iberia is available via Chicago but I would rather avoid them. I have flown FinnAir in Y but was not impressed compared to AA Flagship service.

We checked on partners USAir and AA to London and then connecting on BA.

If I choose between FinnAir and AerLingus, which would be best? A leisure fare at this time is $1200.

I flew FinnAir in C last year, and had a great experience. The FA's were very attentive, and the food was substantially better than AA biz class.

Aer Lingus is pretty good too - as long as they don't go on strike!

i had some very bad experience with EI ground staff in DUB. but that might be just i was unlucky.

EI are in the process of completely revamping their Premier (business) product - see the thread under EI. If you happen to catch one of the 'craft that has been reconfigured, it knocks the socks off the equivalent clunky old business class on Finnair on their aged MD-11's. The food on EI is also far superior, in my opinion. The Finnair lounges at ARN can be vastly over-crowded, too. Beware, though, that the Iberia connection our of Dub can be nasty, even in business. Still, given the option, and balancing the time I'd spend with the respective carriers, I'd go with EI and IB.

umm...Finnair just revamped its business class not so long ago, so i would hardly consider it "old and clonky"....
And yes mayby the Finnair lounge in ARN(stockholm) might be crowded, but that really doesnt affect on a JFK-HEL flight now does it, since theres no stop-over in ARN...

cheers jetboy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Oops! Sorry, JetBoy. I meant HEL, not ARN. If memory serves, there are at least two Finnair lounges at HEL, and both are equally busy. The transit time between the transatlantic and the Europen flight would probably be in the AM, so hopefully the congestion would not be too bad.

I don't recall seeing an updated business class on Finnair, but it has been a year since I flew them transatlantic.

I have flown FinnAir in Y and wasn't as impressed with AA transatlantic. Business class did look like it was reconfigured. In regards to the lounges, the business class lounge was small but not very crowded. I had access with AA Platinum card. Other lounge across the hall is crowded however.
