CP joins oneworld 100K bonus

Came home to a letter from CP tonight, regarding their participation in the 100K bonus. I think it's the same as the others -- 3 airlines/25K, 4/50K, and 5/100K. It implies all oneworld airlines qualify. The only restrictions are

- Eligible flights are all fare types that earn Canadian Plus points.
- CP, AA, BA, CX, QF, as well as FinnAir and Iberia
- Open to residents of Canada only, 18 years and older

For once I'm almost glad of the discrimination - I don't think I could handle the stress!

Moving home...(sort of).

Glad Ken brought up the fine print ...Canadian Residents only. After CPlus centre receives my email advising them of a change of address, I shall be deemed a Canadian Resident once more.

Till the next promotion , that is....

I too have "moved home" by internet address change. This should allow me to get 6 X 100K on my current trip (in Belgium today). I also already got 100K from AA because of an error they made on bonus starting date. Where is IB?

I called Canadian Plus today but was told that the oneworld promotion was not available to all members but by invitation only. Apparently only Gold and Executive Platinum members were sent the letter. KenHamer - does your letter say anything about this? My status is with AC but I was thinking of joining the 100K bandwagon ... now it seems that if I do I will have to go with AAdvantage of BA Executive Club instead.

Nothing on the form letter implies that it is targetted to selected members. In fact, here's the summary at the bottom of the letter:

Contest open to all residents of Canada, 18 years of age and older. No purchase necessary. Chances of winning depend on number of entries. Must answer a skill testing question. Complete contest rules can be obtained from Ogilvy & Mather, Suite 600, 355 - 4th Avenue S.W., Calgary Alberta, T2P 0J1 or online at www.cdnair.ca .
Perhaps I should add that in conjuction with the 100K bonus promotion, they are also having a draw for 1 million points, or 5 first class trips for two, anywhere in the oneworld network. Each flight from Oct 1 to Dec 31 gets you one entry in the draw.

Nevertheless, there is nothing on the form letter that suggests it is limited. But I haven't been able to find any details on CP's web site. Perhaps after Oct 1?

I still can't find details of this offer on the website! (Someone did post the URL for the million-point-draw rules, but they don't mention the 100k promo, nor can I find a link to the rules from CP's site!).

Have they posted the promotion in public yet?

Thanks!

Are you sure the "must be a resident of Canada" rule is for the 100k bonus or only for the 1000000 drawing. When I talked to CP they said US members can qualify for the 100k bonus. I will call them again and verify this.

Just spoke with Cdn today to confirm details and eligible fares/flights for the 100K one- world bonus. It is definitely by invitation only, apparently, and since I am a re-qualified Gold and still have not received the letter, it may have only gone to Platinum and select Golds. I will be writing Cdn directly to request qualification for this promotion, and advise what happens.

just went through the rules to both promotions with a lees than knowledgible cp agent. 1mm mile promotion is only for select individuals who receive said mailing. fly 3 or more promo rules says it is open to canadian plus memebers PERIOD. no residency or status requirements specified. sounds like it is just an add-on to the letter without much fanfare. litlle did they know...

CAN'T WE FIND SOMEONE THAT WORKS FOR CP TO SETTLE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL. or are they just all gearing up for the merger (haha)?

Or for an _expert_ opinion, any FT'ers who've flown 3 OW carriers on their CP account? I've seen report(s) of AA flyers who've received the 25k bonus already, any CP flyers? (Ken?)

[added: and I'd really like to know, 'cause if CP won't give me the 3/4/5-carrier bonus, I should stick a YOW-YYZ onto BA or someone else, along with my ORD-YOW in 10 days!]

I talked to several people at CP and they have stated the following:

1)The bonus offer is only availalbe for people who were mailed a letter. If you did not get a letter, you can request a letter by calling the frequent flier desk.

2)It does not matter where you live---Canada, US or Tibet---all members who got the letter can earn the bonus.

3)If you fly on any codeshares, the codeshare metal has to be a member of the oneworld alliance. In other words if the codeshare is being operated by American or British you are OK. If the codeshare is being operated by Alaska/Horizon it does not count.

Tango Oct 13, 1999 3:22 pm

Update: I got through to a supervisor with CP and went over the program details line by line. The 1kofferis open to all members of the Frequent Flier program. 300000 letters were sent out but only to draw attention to the program. In writing it states that you do not have to have a letter to qualify.

The codeshare issue is more murkey. The supervisor had to call headquarters and even there they did not come up with a total agreement. If you fly a codeshare ticketed by Canadian but not the metal(operated by Canadian), you could put yourself in jeapordy. To be safe you have to fly either a Canadian marketed and OPERATED AIRCRAFT!!!!
Candian regional does qualify. This is different from the American interpetation of the rules that state as long as it is ticketed by CP you are ok.

I hope this clears up any confussion.

If anyone was hoping to qualify on Canadian with a codeshare on Alaska/Horizon the only way to play it safe is to take a round-trip to Victoria from Vancouver on Canadian--very affordable and cheap insurrance for insuring getting a full 100k. There are probably many other Canadian Regional flights you can take but the Vancouver/Victoria option makes the most amount of sense for people flying up to Vancouver from Seattle.

ALW Oct 13, 1999 4:40 pm

And there's _still_ no link to the 100K promo from their website! I can't even find a link to the 1M contest.

Thanks for clarifying. So far, (and certainly my NA flights) are CP on CP and AA on AA. It will get trickier if I make it to Europe; is your conclusion just that the codeshare has to be both operated and labelled by Oneworld, or is there actually some possibility that in effect, codeshares (other than Canadian Regional, American Eagle, etc.) won't count at all?
