since I couldn't seem to be able to get into the CX forum, I'll just post here...

starting from April, CX has re-structured quite some of their fare codes...for example, I'm flying CX from HKG to TPE every week, out Sunday night and back Friday evening, always getting the "Normal Excursion" fare, YEE60, US$359 roundtrip...it's the same as the "Normal" fare, Y, US$439 roundtrip, except that YEE60 requires a minimum stay of 3 days and a maximum of 60 days...and, YEE60 still got me full 100% mileage and 1 sector towards Marco Polo qualification for each flight...

However, starting from April 1, they "renamed" this YEE60 to BEE60...and in CX's programs (both Asia Miles and The Club), B is regarded as discounted economy, so now I'll only be getting 50% of the miles and 0.5 sector towards Marco Polo for each flight...
at first I'm aiming for Diamond pretty soon later this year...now it'll take me double the time...of course, since BEE60 still pretty much has no restrictions, and I'm sure I'll be staying for 5 days each week, there's just no way I can ask my company to buy Y instead of BEE60...

not sure how many CX routes' fare codes have been changed though...

oh, I posted the previous message a bit too early...just got something from CX this past weekend, talking about their "sub-class re-alignment"...now their economy sub-classes are classified as follows:

Full Fare Economy: Y, B
Discounted Economy: H, K, M, L, W

Some other changes with its airline partners:

For travel on Canadian Airlines, in sub-classes A, B, G, H, K, M, N, O, P, Q, V, X and Z, you'll earn 50% of the miles (or sectors) flown, sub-class R will earn 100% of the mileage flown and sub-class W is deleted. (In the original terms and conditions, all these 15 sub-classes are listed as discounted economy)

For travel on Japan Airlines (international flights) and Japan Asia Airways, you'll earn 50% of the mileage flown in the following sub-classes - B, Q, M, N, X, G. Sub-class H is no longer ineligible for earning mileage credits. For travel with discount economy tickets (except group fares and industry travel fares) on Japan Airlines, domestic flights will earn 50% of the miles flown.

The Marco Polo Club confirmed that all tickets with class codes "B" and "Y" will count as 100% points under The Club and AsiaMiles qualification.

This does not affect CP or AA anyway as these frequent flyer programmes get 100% of miles in economy no matter how cheap the ticket is!

According to the AA website not all economy tickets are eligible for (full) mileage credit:

Earning AAdvantage Miles
With Cathay Pacific's participation in oneworld, AAdvantage members traveling in all classes of service earn miles.
Effective February 1, 1999,
First Class fares (booked in F or A) earn 100% mileage credit plus 50% class of service bonus.

Business Class fares (booked in C, D, I and J) earn 100% mileage credit plus 25% class of service bonus.

Eligible Economy Class fares earn 100% mileage credit:
-From February 1 to March 31,1999 eligible Economy Class fares are Y and W.
-From April 1 to June 30, 1999 eligible Economy Class fares are Y, W, B and H.
-From July 1, 1999 and on eligible Economy Class fares are Y, B and H.

The more I read here, the more I'm convinced that CP's is the best oneworld program to join. While I can't swear to it, CP does not seem to have all these restrictions and reduced mileage policies. Last week I flew LHR-HAM on BA, on a super discounted fare, and received the minimum 500 points for a 451 mile flight. According to my points statement, it was in "V" class, and was about 75% less than full fare economy.

And it showed up on my online statement less than 48 hours after the flight.

I just found out that CP's Asian residing memebers can only earn 0.5 miles when travelling CX's discount economy.

So CP is now imposing on CX's strict rules as to who gets miles on which economy class they buy. Can you get detailed information on that rumour , Chatter?

And they wouldn't dare impose that ruling on CP members residing anywhere else, would they, Ken?

I'd like to think not. Given that the restriction is only for Asian members, and only on CX, is sounds to me like it is a CX imposed policy.

Pehaps it's time to set up a mailing address in Canada?

My mother has just suffered from the 'stupid' rules, she only receives half of the points for a CX flight of HKG-LHR.

The rule is written black and white in the new CP membership guide. However, I think CP should inform us ahead of time, so that we can know before we travel.

This is something we all have to get used to. I've been with AA for a long time. In the early days with few partners it was relatively simple. As the number of partners grew it became more and more complex. My solution? I always check with AA before I make a booking with a partner for the first time as to what the specific rules are. This has become a must with all the variations between the oneWorld carriers. AA maintains a list of the valid booking codes eligible for miles and status - this information is not published on the web or any of the ff guides. A good example is what you get when you fly with BA. We all know you can't get miles on transatlantic services, but there are several quirky rules depending on which routes are flown - e.g. Japan only F/C/S classes are valid, super shuttle only C class, and other limitations too numerous to mention.
