Best oneworld lounges

Anyone care to share their favourite oneworld lounges?
(not third party lounges please)

FlyingOutTLV Apr 6, 2015 12:52 pm

Finnair Premium Lounge - Helsinki.
Qantas Lounge - Singapore.
Admirals Club - Paris.
Cathay Pacific The Wing - Hong Kong.

The biggest problem of the Premium Lounge is that it's open to Sapphire members also. So, sometimes, a bit crowded. Should be an F lounge, IMO.

But, AY doesn't have F and I don't think any airline flies F into HEL.

True.

But if AY bothered with two lounges side-by-side I think they should have kept one as J lounge and one as F lounge. The current situation is that the Premium Lounge is often more crowded (thuogh, it is smaller) and the offerings could also be upgraded (if serving fewer people).

If the whole point is to benefit AY's own frequent flyers, which is totally fine, then they can offer access to Golds and Platinums from their own program and also Emeralds (only) from other programs in the alliance. It wouldn't be the first lounge to have such a policy.

Anyway... fantastic lounge in my book.

secondsoprano Apr 6, 2015 5:33 pm

Qantas First Sydney, hands down. Spectacular food and wine, well laid out lounge with plenty of space, plus the spa. All they need is the Wing's cabana's and it would be officially heaven.

themapelligroup Apr 6, 2015 5:53 pm

Qantas First Lounge - Sydney
BA First Lounge - London
Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Lounge - Doha
Cathay Pacific The Wing - Hong Kong

Would slot QF FL Melbourne in just behind Sydney (overall architecture not as good but food/drinks the same, haven;t been to Doha).
CX The Pier First behind CX The Wing First
Then
JL First Tokyo Haneda International (very new)
QF First LAX (also new)
JL First Tokyo Narita International
QF Hong Kong (new)
QF Singapore (new)
CX The Bridge
MH First KUL (food lets it down)

atxtraveler Apr 7, 2015 1:29 pm

Qantas Melbourne
Qatar Doha
QF Singapore

Those are the only that I can think of that are "best" that I have been to.

AddictedTraveller Apr 9, 2015 9:50 pm

QF - Sydney (F)
CX - The Wing HK
QF - Singapore (J&F)

I don't think the HEL Finnair lounge is in the same league and the KUL Golden First Lounge is ok but again not great.

tmac100 Apr 10, 2015 3:09 am

Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Lounge - Doha. Hands down!

The 2nd floor restaurant can be crowded late afternoon/early evening, BUT several glasses of Krug take care of any angst.

There is a LOT of quiet space on the main floor with several quiet areas for resting.

flying home Apr 10, 2015 1:33 pm

Agree the AY Helsinki lounge is awesome

My 3 Favourites & Hands Down Worst

My personal favourites are:

1. QF First Sydney. The Neil Perry menu, Salt & Pepper Calamari especially, great wines as already stated, and friendly staff. Plus good views.
2. BA First LHR. Nice and roomy, good wines, food bit hit and miss, but when good, very tasty.
3. CX First The Wing. Great Staff. good food and wine, but the colours make it feel too much like going to visit one of my banking clients.

The flea pit of the First Class Lounges is (well for me):

1. BA First JFK. Absolute dive, food is dire, wine selection is better in the business class lounge, dull lighting gives it an old Eastern Block feel. Does have lots of M&Ms (only good thing I could think to say of the place, and even then I prefer Smarties)

silvergirl Apr 12, 2015 12:46 pm

My view, in order..

1. Cathay the Wing HKG first
2. Qatar business class lounge London
3. Qantas First Sydney
4. Qatar Al Mourjan business class lounge Doha
5. BA CCR Heathrow
6. Qantas LAX
7. Qantas Singapore
8. JAL Narita First

77W_12A Apr 12, 2015 1:19 pm

Here's my ranking

1. Qantas F Lounge at Melbourne
2. Cathay Pacific The Wing F Lounge at Hong Kong
3. Qantas J Lounge at Hong Kong
4. Qantas F Lounge at Los Angeles
5. Qantas J Lounge at Singapore
6. Japan Airlines F Lounge at Haneda and Narita
7. British Airways F Lounge at Heathrow (not CCR)
8. Cathay Pacific J Lounge at Haneda

zeltergiset Apr 12, 2015 8:53 pm

Is it correct to call BA's CCR and QR's lounges at LHR and DOH "oneworld lounges"? I believe they have different entry requirements (have to be flying in premium cabin on those carriers, status not relevant) which may exclude them from this discussion.

Definitely a fair point

Admirals clubs in the US... Ha who am I kidding, they're terrible. The one in Paris on the other hand is pretty decent.

The Flagship Lounge at LAX is nice enough. I like it better than the JL Narita F lounge but I'm sure that's a minority opinion on here.

Not necessarily. I've heard from my brother that one of his collegues has a cousin who thinks the same.

:D

Back OT, my shortlist are the following:

1. QF F at SYD
2. CX F Wing at HKG
3. JL F at NRT
4. QF F at LAX
5. BA F at LHR T5

I haven't been to the FL in LAX, but I have been to AC. I love their watermelon water, I can drink that all day. They at least have showers and if you go at night before their last flight, it's really empty, which is nice.

gordon0808 Apr 18, 2015 5:44 pm

If BA's GF at T5 is among the best OW lounges, there must be lots of really bad lounges throughout the alliance. It's overcrowded and the food is medicore at best. It has good views though.
I am a fan of CX's HKG lounges. Not a fan of the Al Mourjan in DOH because of lack of comfortable seating and crap showers.
The QF lounge in SIN is one of the better OW lounges I have visited. Decent food and relatively roomy.

I think the JFK Flagship Lounge is MUCH better than the BA First lounge one terminal away. And it has a great view.

At JFK the BA Club lounge, on the other hand, is quite nice--loads better than the Admiral's Club and even better than the BA first lounge (which, as Nicc HK noted, is dark and dreary). The pre-flight dining restaurant has good food (though restricted to BA club and first passengers) along with a limited Cathay noodle bar.

Haven't been to many (outside Europe and the US) but I do like the LAX QF lounge and, believe it or not, the Iberia lounge in 4S.

perthflyer Apr 22, 2015 5:48 pm

I'm not that fussy when it comes to food in lounges - I'm pretty easily satisfied as long as there is at least something there. My rating of a lounge depends much more on the beverage options and amenities (wifi, showers, views, seating/ability to find seating etc.).

I haven't been to that many oneworld lounges, but my favourite oneworld operated/owned lounges in order would have to be:

1) SYD QF F (by a long, long, long way!)
Fabulous views of the airport and the Sydney skyline in the distance as well as some fantastic food. Good selection of drinks as well - De Bortoli Noble One dessert wine was a highlight when I was there (although I also had a killer espresso martini as well!). Decor/furniture is modern, chic and creates a lovely atmosphere.

2) LHR CX F
Great views of the runway, comfortable lounges to sit back on whilst enjoying aforementioned view, delicious noodles, great shower suites and Veuve Cliquot (a champagne I personally enjoy).

3) LHR BA F (T3)
Comfortable (and uncrowded) seating as well as great views from the First dining room. Taittinger Prelude is an easily drinkable champagne. Very relaxing lounge.

4) MEL QF J (Domestic J/OWE)
Good selection of food, great drinks selection (including my favourite beer VB and my favourite spirit Bundy), nice views of the tarmac. Can get a little crowded sometimes.

5) JFK AA F
Great shower suites, perfectly adequate food, very good drinks selection (Disaronno and Bloody Mary mix are the standouts), great views of the apron and Manhattan skyline. Fantastic friendly staff. Bottled water is an ingenious touch (and hugely appreciated when hungover! ;))

6) LHR BA F (T5)
If only visits before midday were considered I'd rate this lounge higher due to its amazing (in my opinion) breakfast. Decent drinks selection (^ for bitter lemon as a mixer) and the 'outside' terrace is a nice place to be. Showers are absolutely horrid and seating can be difficult to find during the day.

7) MIA BA/AA Premium (Concourse E)
Good drinks selection (a nice range of beers including some interesting craft ones), substantial food is lacking a bit, but is redeemed by a nice selection of snacks/light bites. Thoroughly enjoyed the big bowls of fresh berries. Very good shower suites (recurring theme in American lounges). Decor a bit outdated.

8) LAX AA F
For some reason I wasn't a huge fan of the layout. Food options didn't seem as good as the Flagship lounge in JFK. I didn't have much time on my transits in LAX so didn't spend that much time in the lounge.

Notable mention to the Almost@home lounge at HEL - a third party lounge that BA uses for CE passengers. Its decor is absolutely gorgeous and is incredibly Nordic in design. A nice selection of food and drink and very friendly staff.

I'm going to Hong Kong in August so I'm looking forwards to trying out the QF lounge, CX Wing F and CX Pier F at HKG (as well as the Al Mourjan lounge in DOH as I'm flying QR/CX thanks to a £1300 exARN J fare)

Anyone care to compare the Qantas J lounge and the Cathay Wing J lounge in Hong Kong?

I personally prefer the food selection at the Qantas lounge. Fresher, more substantial healthy options. The CX lounge food is more snacky. However the food at The Bridge is better than the food at The Wing.

In terms of ambiance, I prefer the QF lounge to The Wing, but The Bridge is better than both.

Agree with Finnair in HEL and Cathay Pacific The Wing in HKG! My gosh those two lounges were absolutely stunning!

My favourite is currently the QF J lounge in HKG. I can't find a single thing wrong with it. Showers, sport on TV, excellent food, good coffee, comfortable chairs, good view, good wifi, lots of charging points, clean, close to security/immigration and excellent staff.

Others of note:
The Wing F in HKG, The Cabin in HKG, QF in SIN, QF F in SYD, CX in HND, JL in HND, Al Mourjan in DOH and The CCR in LHR.

Special mention goes to the old Premium Terminal at DOH. I loved that place.

I just went in the F lounge on 2 separate occasions for the first time in over a year and I'm shocked by how far its fallen. What are BA playing at. Other than its size its closer to a contract lounge than a supposed flagship lounge.

CMK10 May 26, 2015 9:35 pm

I actually like the LHR CCR a lot, though I realize I'm in the minority in that one. In the US, the JFK FL for the views and the fact that I think the food is actually halfway decent.

Besides from CCR not beeing an Oneworld lounge as such, point is taken. The neighbouring Galleries First, that is, can be very crowded at rush hours, when CCR often isn't

I am sat there now. The bizclass OneWorld lounge is much nicer, having just had a look around. I came back here for the menu-driven food only. Staff are nice, but the views are pretty poor, it's got a seriously dull interior, and the showers remind me of being back at boarding school... I had gone in really exited, too.

What, Galleries First @ T5?! The wine's good, it ends there. Surly staff, always packed, food pretty bad, every fat man in a suit in the world hangs out there yabbering on their cellphones. Again, I went there excited.

Al-Mourjan at DOH is pretty special, can't wait for Al-Safwa. QR's offering at LHR is excellent too, although I guess not strictly speaking a oneworld lounge. If you're at LHR T4 at sunset, view from the Malaysia Air lounges is spectacular, but the food, drink, and decor leave a lot to be desired.

Looking forward to trying new CX lounge at BKK

My view, in order..

1. Cathay the Wing HKG first
2. BA CCR Heathrow
3. Qatar Al Mourjan business class lounge Doha
4. Many others

PS I cannot evaluate QF and AY because I did not stay

jdbelfast Jun 17, 2015 5:00 pm

For dining, QF MEL First and QF SYD First. For facilities like relaxation rooms and sleeping, QR First in Doh. For generally being quiet, good facilities and food, BA First in T3.

Exactly. They aren't frequent flyer lounges, they are premium lounges.

Looks like the new Pier First Class lounge at HKG should be included among the best ones. Good job CX!

1. JL F Sakura NRT
2. BA CCR LHR
3. CX F Wing HKG
