Long time since my last post, but I'm seeking some advice from fellow FT'ers.

I'm planning my honeymoon for next year, am hoping to be able to do an ACIRX ticket with Oneworld. We have two fixed points on the itinerary at this stage (and award bookings ticketed for hubby), but the middle bit is up for debate. I have stumbled across a destination today that I think would be a great midpoint relaxation part of the trip, but I"m not sure if the routing will be allowed - seeking any input if possible.

Routing plan is -

SYD-(LAX)-LAS - 9 nights
LAS -(DFW)-PVR - 6 nights
PVR-(DFW)-LGA - 5 nights
JFK-NRT - 4 nights
NRT-SYD

From a mileage point of view I'm under the 26K, and I'm prepare to pay the USD150 for an additional stopover in North America, but not sure about the transiting through DFW to get to PVR (which is AA's default option)

What do you guys think?

What you plan should be fine - there is nothing in the rules that I can see (just double-checked them on ExpertFlyer) that precludes multiple transits through the same airport.

As you already know - you are allowed only two free stopovers per region - therefore to have your third stopover in Nth America you have to shell out USD150.

And as you probably also already know - you can have only one stopover at any given place.

FYI US flies LAS-PHX and PHX-PVR so that's another option for you

Remember that if you are in a place for 23 hrs 59 min, this is a transfer / transit -- so this may avoid a technical stopover and associated extra cost. Or it allows a transfer to be stretched

IME it is 24:00 (or less) for a transit.

Upon further research, it seems better if if just book ACIR22 and have the LAS-JFK in the PNR as aN ARNK (ie surface sector) and then buy LAS-PVR-LGA on AA as a separate ticket. Saves over $1000.. Gotta be happy with that...

Pandaperth, I did look as the US option via PHX, but I can earn 20 more SCs on AA via DFW both ways (and a few thousand more gin and tonics!!)

And you will also save the USD150 for the 3rd stopover in Nth America, as you will now only have one (which starts in LAS and ends at JFK) Additional note: you are required to have two stopovers outside the country of origin

From your OP, I think you chose PVR as a "relaxation spot" between LAS and NYC - because it would fit within the 26,000 mile limit and Mexico is allowed on the ticket. If you now have a surface segment, you can of course chose some other spot instead - such as the Caribbean. I suggest you peruse the AA online timetable to identify potential relaxation spots

You could still fit another flight in the 22,000 miles limit. For example this itinerary SYD-xLAX-LAS,IAH-LGA,JFK-NRT-SYD. The necessary add-on of LAS-PVR-IAH should be cheaper than LAS-PVR-NYC.

Re PVR as a relaxation stop, this was quite a deliberate choice based on feedback I've read and heard. Pandaperth are you suggesting it's not a good destination? ;-)

We've been to the Caribbean once before, BGI, and absolutely hated it. We didn't feel safe, and I'm not sure where in the Caribbean would be in the list of gay honeymoon destinations... But I'm open to suggestion? PVR looks perfect for us....

I guess I was just reading too much into your wording of your choice of relaxation stop.

A case of YMMV I guess. We went to Barbados for my 60th birthday bash and loved it.
