Pricing Question
Could someone provide me current pricing for xONEX ex-BUD?
We are likely to be purchasing LONE's (3,4,5) but I would appreciate DONE pricing too. We were planning to ex-JNB but notice pricing from Budapest was favourable at one point and we will be in Budapest prior to starting our RTW tickets. I had found a positioning flight from BUD-JNB for about $500 but we had an extra segment left. Thanks in advance - Kevin:) |

Thanks Jerry - Very Helpful!!
Could someone post the same chart for JNB?? This will help me compare our two options. It looks like BUD might be better as it is easier to avoid BA and QX surcharges.

Kevin Himeno also gave you pricing for an LONE4 and DONE4 ex-JNB in this post: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/20009341-post6.html |
Yes I know I have pricing for LONE4 and DONE4 from JNB; however, we are now considering 3 continents instead of 4 with the option to visit the 4th/5th continet outside of the OneWorld ticket because of the 16 segment limitation. Last time we had 20 or 21 segments. We may even use a combination of a LONEx + DONEx tickets.
A chart like the one you provided (I assume this came from expertflyer.com) is all that we really need from JNB in order to solidify our options. I just took a quick look at expert flyer and don't think I need to become fluent with it for this upcoming trip. Between ITS, mileagemonkey, wandr site, and Flyertalk, I think I would have enough info to work things out. I appreciate the BUD pricing though. Kevin

Expertflyer.com is a business that provides a service that many FTers find invaluable. I don't mind posting info from their site occasionally but repeated requests seem to me to be pushing it. They used to have free limited subscriptions, why don't you take a look?

Hi Jerry,
It has been a long day looking at various RTW itin's we might consider. What I do know is the following: 1) We intend to start a RTW from JNB; 2) Or we will start from BUD; 3) We will be returning to YYZ several times throughout the year; 4) We have specific places we MUST be at specific times. The Fare Information Search you provided for BUD was GREAT (thank you again). I know a xONEx has to be at least 4 continents. The other options (*A, Circle fares would be helpful). I need to take a break at this moment - I'm tired. If you do not want to provide the same info for JNB - that's not a problem. I prefer you ignore my posts for assistance rather than offer a sarcastic response. Cheers - Kevin

How exactly do you intend to do a LONE3 or DONE3 starting in South Africa?

Until such time as there is a oneworld flight crossing the South Atlantic, it is not possible to do an 3 continent RTW out of the southern hemisphere.
(QF's soon to start MEL/SYD-DXB (and on to LHR) and when QR joins its PER/MEL-DOH flights;) |
But you can do an xONE3 originating at BUD (or anywhere in Europe).

Northern hemisphere xONE3s have always been possible But it is not currently possible to have an xONE3 that includes any of the Southern hemisphere continents, no matter where it originates |

(QF's soon to start MEL/SYD-DXB (and on to LHR) and when QR joins its PER/MEL-DOH flights;) Provided the reroute of QF1/2/9/10 gets recognised as SWP-EU, you could do SWP-EU-NA/SA-SWP as a xONE3, but any use of Africa would result in an xONE4. Also couldn't use Asia on an xONE3 with SWP (unless AA restarts India flights and said flights are labeled as transatlantic) |

Which would still prevent xONE3s using Africa.
If Africa is in the itinerary, then Europe has to be as well (because there are no flights from Africa to either Nth or Sth America). That means both continents in TC2 are in, then you have to add in at least one from each of TC1 and TC3 - makes a total of at least 4 continents required. Now if MH had not dropped its JNB-EZE flight.... |
Thanks KVS!!

There you go:
Looks like the best value for us will be a LONE3 or DONE3 ex BUD with a side trip down to JNB. I found return flights from BUD to JNB for $700 via Egypt Air. For the same price we can have an extra segment, greater flexibility, and effectively extending our RTW trip from a year to 15 months (by starting the xONE3 a few months after our positioning flights to BUD). Thanks for all the help with the pricing (KVS and Jerry). Kevin and Family [KVS Availability Tool 7.1.3/Diamond - Sabre: Fares/DotRes/US] Code:

Cheers - Kevin ExpertFlyer is a business many of us appreciate and support, and encourage others to do the same. Check them out - as mentioned, they probably have a short free trial that'll let you quickly evaluate some of your what-ifs. If there's no free lunch, I believe an unlimited subscription is $9.95 per month, totally lost in the thousands you're about to spend. Beyond the simple base pricing that EF will give you, there's a ton of rules to understand to manage a DIY xONEx. If you don't have the time for that, you might consider using a travel agent. If you do, select carefully - some won't have a clue how to proceed, and might try anyway. |

well, I've told them exactly what I wanted down to route, flight number, fare class and fare basis, even checked the availability and gave them the fare rules - so that the only thing they had to do was enter what I gave them into the system and click book, and they still tried to do something different. |
Thanks
John,
Thanks for the info. I mentioned I was a bit tired when I read Jerry's email. It came across as sarcasm; however, I may have taken it the wrong way. I may look into EF, not for pricing, but rather fare codes on different flights to maximize miles later down the road. We will be leaving from BUD and taking a side trip to South Africa. I will post our Itin and rationale for our decisions to leave exBUD vs JNB. I'm sure it will help others trying to minimize costs. Cheers - Kevin

I do wish EF had an option for "all flights into/out of" an airport or city. |
