Long Rumored MIA-NRT ???????
I was fiddling around with the OneWorld Online planning tool and found the following flight on 2/20/2013:
AA 61 MIA-NRT Duration: 18h 10m Aircraft: Equipment varies Is this the long rumored 777-ER???? Sorry - I'm guessing it's a thru flight. Confusing from planner.... |
That's a long flight. Can the 773 do 18 hrs? I think 61 connects thru dfw
|
It stops in DFW, but is one flight number. 18h 10m would be a bit too long for nonstop. (It can be done in less with stops)
|
Looking in KVS is seems to a direct flight, with an equipment change at the intermediate stop in DFW
[KVS Availability Tool 7.0.7/Diamond - Amadeus: Timetable/NL-BCDF] Code:
MIA Miami Intl FL US [KMIA]Code:
DFW Dallas Metro / Dallas/Fort Worth TX US = DFW DAL [KDFW]Hopefully the MIA-DFW flight will arrive at the same terminal as the DFW-NRT departs from |
It's effective 28OCT12.
Also effective that date are through flight numbers from/to DCA via DFW (AA175/176), from/to LAS via LAX (AA169/170), and from/to MCO via ORD (AA153/154) |

Could be useful for Oneworld explorer itineraries.

Well, it would save a segment, but I'd fly CX F if I'm in F on that route, connecting in JFK or ORD, even at the cost of an extra segment unless I absolutely needed it. For winter departures, I'd do LAX or SFO, of course. Not interested in AA F TPAC when I can have CX for the same price.
This also opens up more NA gateways for AA Award tickets eg you should now be able to do Asia-(LAX)-LAS-other point in NA with stopover in LAS or use MIA as a gateway stopover from Asia enroute to the Caribbean |

It would cost 2 more segments to fly CX on the routes being discussed MIA/DCA/LAS-NRT on CX transpac would require 3 segments and on JL 2 segments compared to one for AA.
