Since "*" is used in the IATA codes assigned to airlines, it becomes the prefixes for alliances' pseudo-IATA codes. Oneworld did use "OW" for a while, when Star used "*A," but oneworld was later standardised as "*O" while SkyTeam adopted "*S."

And here I always thought the asterisk in "*A" was an abbreviation for "Star."

I believe it does represent "Star"; *O and *S followed for lack of anything better I guess.

*A was founded in 1997, *O in 1999 and *S in 2000.

Yes. They are new gates in the TBIT redevelopment.
134 has already been operational for a few moths.

serfty Dec 14, 2012 9:29 pm

Yep - used 134 twice in November - shortens the walk from the lounge/to immigration considerably.

OK, so what does this mean with regard to the new lounge? I keep coming here to see updates about the new lounge only to find discussions about gates.

The opening of the new TBIT is staged over a number of years.
Gate 134 is now open
Gate 130/132 opens Jan 2013.
Great Hall and the star lounge and first phase of the oneworld lounge (reported to be the new Business lounge) in the latter half of the year.
Then the east gates
Then the existing TBIT piers get demolished and new taxiways and gates on the North get constructed
And oneworld renovates the existing star lounge and existing oneworld lounge for a new lounge.

So we will probably see something new for oneworld in mid-late 2013, but I wouldn't expect it to be all finished until well into 2014

Does anyone have any update on this, particularly when the F and J one world lounges will be open? Thanks

“the first phase of the new Business Lounge in Los Angeles in late 2013, followed by the opening of the new First Lounge in Los Angeles in 2014.”

I thought I read on another thread that the OW lounge is going to be the largest in terms of square feet. Is this still true?

moa999 Mar 30, 2013 5:14 pm

From the plans, when finally complete, it looks like it.

Reported on the Australian forum that the Central Core and 5new gates have opened.
Presumably from the Central Core one can see the new parts of the oneworld lounge.. How close does it look??

moa999 Jun 27, 2013 10:25 pm

Looks like there was a invite launch event on June 20, but the actual opening of the Central Core will be August.

Some additional info on the Core:
Shopping includes -- Gucci, Burberry, Kitson, Fred Segal
Food -- Umami Burger, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, The Larder, Border Grill, Chaya, LaMill Coffee, Marmalade, 800 Degrees, Ink Sack, III Forks from Dallas, Petrossian Caviar, Vino Volo, Panda Express”

And a lot of photos (sadly none of the lounges):
