SriLankan says my fare basis is EOWLK ... that means my booking class is E, correct? (Sorry for the bonehead question - just want to make sure)

If that's right, then it looks like Iberia will get me 100% & AA only 50% ... Excellent. Thanks again. -huge

Yes E class

2 flights is not a basis of selecting a ffp. What is your objective from a ffp?

Frequent flyer miles are not 1 to 1. Frequent flyer miles are not equal to earn or burn between ffp’s. 50% is 1 ffp may be better than 100% in another. 10,000 frequent flyer miles in 1 ffp may get you a longer award flight than 15,000 frequent flyer miles in another ffp. Each airline ffp has different rules for using (burning) those miles/points for awards and different copay/surcharge $$ fees. There are cash surcharges on award flights with some ffp’s/routes/airlines.

Award cost (several web sites like this) AwardAce: Compare Award Redemptions Across Airlines In Seconds --> http://www.awardace.com/ Has surcharge indication

USA based airline ffp's tend to be more generous (status benefits/earn/burn/upgrades/award cost/award cash surcharges/expiry/affiliated credit card ff mile earning/promotions) compared to non USA based airline ffp’s (even after the recent changes to some USA ffp’s). But if you are not flying the airline of your ffp the useful benefits are somewhat limited. Low cost fares are tending to earn few ff miles, but depend on the ffp. Earning miles from non flying activities is easier with an airline ffp of your home country.

The airline you fly most or an airline of the country you live is the best ffp for many people. Generally you are better earning on your primary airline due to greater recognition, better service when disruptions, ability to upgrade flights and possible operational upgrades.

Thank you very much for the links, and the cautionary advice. I'm not talking about choosing Iberia as my primary FFP, but for a single flight to generate a few thousand miles in my newly-created Iberia account will work out very well for me, as I believe that will allow me after 90 days to transfer BA Avios into Iberia, which will be a very good thing for managing my BA Avios household account (long story).

It's not a boneheaded question at all; the booking code need not be the first letter of the fare, although it often is.

In this, I checked for you, it is.
