(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
In the context of OW, mainly to redeem credit card points to buy Biz tickets from SIN to Europe, Australia, Japan. Occasionally eco tickets.

(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
<25000

(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?
Economy

(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
Only for pleasure

(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?
QR/BA to Europe, QF to Australia, JL to Japan, potentially Cathay to US.

(6) What is your home airport?
SIN

(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?
No

(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?
SQ, but looking for alternative to use credit card points if SQ is not available. Can be FFP of QR, BA, CX, QF. The most interesting awards seem to be with CX but I'm not sure on availability vs QR or BA FFP and the miles expire after 3 years.

I assume these LON-CBR trips are for business/government. Are you subject to a corporate travel policy-preferred airlines?

You will be flying LHR-xxx-MEL/SYD-CBR. xxx could be a range of airports
OW airlines are BA, QF, QR, CX (Cathay) & MH (Malaysian)

The airline you fly most or an airline of the country you live is the best ffp for many people. Generally you are better earning on your primary airline due to greater recognition, better service when disruptions, ability to upgrade flights and possible operational upgrades.

The airline you fly and the airline frequent flyer program you credit those flights to does not need to be the same.

Monthly business class will get status with most/all? of the airlines if you credit to that airlines ffp. If crediting to a different ffp from the airline flying the ff miles/status earning may be less. With BA you need 2/4 BA flights before you get to status. Many airlines have the 4 own airline flight requirement for status. Mid - top status has benefits. like better seat selection (or no requirement to pay $ with BA), lounge access and more avios/miles/points earned from a status bonus.

You will only get upgrades using miles/points from the ffp of the airline you are flying. You will not get cross airline/cross ffp upgrades.
BA/IB/AA have a limited cross airline upgrade system subject to specific t&c's, so not available on the Kangaroo route.

As you live in UK BA ffp would be the first choice. Do not consider the QF ffp.

Thanks! Very useful.

So in conclusion, I should book flights on the BA FFP and (if possible) try to fly BA for the benefits you mentioned.

Is the only difference in Avios that a QF flight wouldn't get the additional tier points bonus (hence for my first flight at Blue tier, it would be the same)? I've read online that BA Business Class is a fairly poor offering compared to Cathay/QF/etc. - is that true?

I'll get the 4 BA flights from personal holiday flights - so that shouldn't be an issue.

(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
Lounge access and good earning and redemption rate
(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
<25000

(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?
discounted Economy that gives at least 50% of the mikes

(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
Mostly for school

(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?
HKG to LHR/MAN with max 1 stop

(6) What is your home airport?
HKG

(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?
No

(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?
Prefer CX/AY/QR on OW. Flown emirates mostly previously because of the cheap fare. Now i start to fly more so i decide to join a ffp to earn miles.

Well flyasia given the modest amount of economy flying I would start with Asia Miles, provided you can find a CC generating points/miles. Without the status that comes with flying, the availability across the OW programs isn't going to be all that different. I have been happy with the PEY award offerings from CX which I can't get from the partners. I suspect there is a small bias in biz class as well.

Happy wandering

do u need op up on CX? I believe CX gold has higher priority for op up than BA gold.

But BA gold is emerald and CX gold is sapphire.

I would pick BA gold, as there are more elite bonus on BA gold, and emerald status.

In fact, my mom, dad, and my 3 years old niece are all BA golds with 2500 tier points (for Gold upgrade for two certificate).

in particulate, my 3 years old wouldnt even get any CX status since CX wont award status due to her age.

My first step into this game was with the Southwest Companion Pass, which has served me well, but will be up at the end of 2017. Since WN has no alliance, I haven't had to worry about it yet, but I want to make the best decision for the future. I've narrowed it down to oneworld and Star Alliance (not really interested in SkyTeam). As an addition to the answers below - if I can bank miles to a program that would allow lifetime status at some point, I'd like to. Might as well have an end goal, right?

(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
(upgrades on travel, priority services when flying the airline, extra baggage allowance, good award redemption rates, better award access, free - discounted lounge access, etc.)
Reply: Definitely good award redemption rates and better award access, lounges would be nice. Not a whole lot of interest in extra services or free baggage, I travel light. Credit cards in the US are a plus though, as I don't want to worry about expiring miles all the time.
(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
(<25000, 25000-50000, >50000 miles - <25, 25-50, >50 flights?)
Reply: Less than 25k miles, hoping to fly more in the next few years with all these miles I've been banking!
(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?
(First, Business, Premium economy, Economy, cheapest)
Reply: Economy. I'd like to book business or first award tickets at some point, but can't see myself paying (as opposed to award flights) for those very often.
(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
Reply: No work travel right now.
(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?
(US Domestic, Transpacific, Kangaroo, in Asia etc)
Reply: Currently, mostly domestic (Southwest CP). No "most often" routes planned in the future though, just looking to see more of the world.
(6) What is your home airport?
(SFO, SCL, London LHR, HKG, Singapore SIN etc.)
Reply: BOS (PVD too if it helps)
(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?
(AA Executive Platinum, QF Gold, UA 1K, LAN Comodoro, etc)
Reply: No status, 350k AAdvantage miles and about 120k Alaska (I know it's not oneworld, but the American/Alaska relationship may help?)
(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?
Reply: No preference. I don't need a lot of frills, but of course my flight experience is somewhat limited so far.

With AA & AS you have no where to change to, that will be better.
As AA & AS partners you have a big cross over, unless uyou are getting ff miles fron credit cards.
AS is a good ffp as it has many partners in OW & Skyteam
As for award cost in ff miles it is what it is. USA based ffp's tend to lower without surcharges.
Look at www.awardace.com and other like this.

Of course the points are from credit cards ;)

What do you mean by "nowhere to change to"? Bolded above.

SQ, but looking for alternative to use credit card points if SQ is not available. Can be FFP of QR, BA, CX, QF. The most interesting awards seem to be with CX but I'm not sure on availability vs QR or BA FFP and the miles expire after 3 years.

Looking at your profile and home base, QF currently presents the best value overall.

QF status gives benefits on 3K, JQ, EK, MU, FJ, and across the entire OW network.

Annually, you will need 4 minimum sectors on QF group airlines, which is a piece of cake with 3K being based in SIN. Just book 2 return starter plus fares to somewhere and you get the minimum 4 sectors.

QF has an interesting chart for intra-asia travel in premium classes. Most 3-4 hour flight destinations would already earn ~ 80 status credits per way in J.

I can't comment on the points redemption reasonability part, as the J fares for certain OW airlines ex SIN are cheap enough to warrant cash fares instead.

Help!!!! Which OW FF program ?!

I'm sorry I didn't want to go through 88 pages of information, and although my question was somewhat answered in the very first page of this topic, this was back in 2011 and I am juste wondering if it is still up to date.

I'm a *A frequent flyer based in YUL, but I recently experienced horrible customer service with AC, as well as a serious mismanagement from the airline (they made me wait more than 24 hours at YYZ for a flight to IND...). I am also a little tired of connecting at YYZ, I prefer going through US custom at YUL, as it is easier to connect after.

So I am considering switching to OW, as I feel my travels bring me to places that fit their network. I would just like to know which FF program is better for me based on my preferences!!!

(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
(upgrades on travel, priority services when flying the airline, extra baggage allowance, good award redemption rates, better award access, free - discounted lounge access, etc.)
Reply: Lounge access, easiness to reach higher tiers, upgrades.
(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?
(<25000, 25000-50000, >50000 miles - <25, 25-50, >50 flights?)
Reply: I fly around 30-35 segments, though that is bound to increase in the upcoming years. mostly Canada-US.
(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?
(First, Business, Premium economy, Economy, cheapest)
Reply: When travelling for business, I fly Economy (though my company does not allow for the cheapest fare), sometimes Business. When I travel for vacations, it is always the cheapest economy fare.
(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?
Reply: I can choose the airline, less so for the class of service. I mostly travel for work (90% of my travels).
(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?
(US Domestic, Transpacific, Kangaroo, in Asia etc)
Reply: YUL-PHX/IND/RDU/NYC several times a year. But I fly once a year to DXB, HKG/SIN, LHR and ARN and more rarely YYC/YVR and YYZ.
(6) What is your home airport?
(SFO, SCL, London LHR, HKG, Singapore SIN etc.)
Reply: YUL
(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?
(AA Executive Platinum, QF Gold, UA 1K, LAN Comodoro, etc)
Reply: AC Prestige 25. (I was going to reach 35k this year)
(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?
Reply: AC. Though I'm willing to switch.

Thanks for you help!!

Hi, I was wondering if someone could point me to what might be the best program for me.

(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?

Probably mileage accrual and ability to redeem award tickets for TATL Y or J.

(2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors?

Usually around 15,000-30,000 with all BIS miles considered, but I split it among different carriers and programs.

(3) What types of fares do you usually buy?

Typically Y and I'll buy E+/exit row/whatever you call it about 90% of the time. Occasionally I'll buy domestic F, but that's only if the upsell over Y/E+/C+ is small.

(4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure?

Almost all pleasure

(5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often?

In a calendar year, typically a lot of US west coast domestic (under two hours), usually one TATL trip, and within the TATL trip, one or two Euro shorthaul legs.

As for airlines, UA was my #1 choice until 2015, when I switched a lot to AS when I briefly lived in the PNW, though I credited AS to my AF/KL FB account. A few thousand were credited to an AA account by mistake. Since moving to LAX last year, most of my segments (half) have been on DL and credited to AF, but then still roughly equal parts UA, AS, and WN here and there.

(6) What is your home airport?

LAX for now, with a lot back and forth LAX-DEN

(7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP?

Was UA 2P ages ago. I may hit silver in AF FB based on segments this year if I really start flying almost exclusively DL.

Currently I have:
AA: 2,700 miles (I redeemed a few for magazines a while ago)
IB: presumably nothing left over from when I took a few VY legs.

I have the Chase Sapphire, so I suppose BA Avios would be a logical one for me to choose. I'm not familiar with Avios, but it looks like a scam to my eyes, and I can't imagine I'd ever want to redeem a TATL ticket on BA Avios over AF/DL or UA.

(8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on?

Guess I've already answered this. Most of my flying in the past has been on UA and Star, but recently I've preferred DL.

TL;DR: Really, what I'm looking for is a place to park miles accrued in the few times a year I fly on oneworld. I don't really fly AA/BA/etc. all that much, and I fly AS less now, and I credit AS to AF right now as it is.

I'm leaning toward AA or AS' programs, even if none of it ever really amounts to much more than magazine and gift card redemptions. I can't imagine I'd ever make AA my preferred carrier anytime soon, though I will be booking a ticket with them next month. Should I stick with crediting to AA, or start with AS as a oneworld+AS+VX plan to catch any of that odd flying I do, or should I choose BA Avios?

Essentially, which program would get me the most RDMs for flying Y LAX-SEA/DEN/PDX on AA (and possibly) AS metal?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would pick AS, especially given their acquisition of VX. It would seem to give you the most flexibility and compatibility with your current flying habits.
