Thx. |
Hi Flyers,
1st post here and I am turning to you guys for a bit of help. I am OW Sapphire with BA, been that for years and pretty much my flight habits keep me there, always falling a little short from OW Emerald. My question is simply, is there a massive difference in accumulating equivalent tier with AY. The BA system is quite clear and the tier point accumulation is quite smooth with even getting some nice 80 tierpoint european business class flights to rack up quickly. Now I travel quite a bit between LHR-HEL but I am based in London and fly often on BA flights to other destinations. Will I earn less tier points if I fly BA - X and put my AY number in vs having my BA number in? Does it make a big difference tier point wise whos actual metal it is that im flying? All help is much appreciated. Reason Im considering AY is just that ive had some really good experiences with them lately and being a Finn would like to support them with my flights, but im just wondering if there is a difference and will I have a harder time racking tier points for AY flying BA out of LHR to other destinations than HKI. Thanks |
Best OneWorld program for me - not BA
Hi All,
Looking for advice on which FF program in OneWorld might be best for me. I generally use LH for European travel out of the UK and have a A3 *G account which I intend to maintain. I try to fly *A for long haul travel but recently I've found they're double the cost of QR or CX. I probably won't make high status with whichever airline I choose so I'm looking for benefits of a lower status (e.g. Silver), fast-track/lounge access and ease of spending miles on upgrades when I have enough. For reasons I won't go into I'm not considering a BA account. I already have a QR return flight for which I haven't claimed the miles, and I'm about to take a CX return flight. I generally fly in economy or premium economy. Any advice very welcome! |
What is your travel pattern? Premium cabins or economy?
Qantas is generally easier to earn status if flying premium cabins, but if you're not flying to Australia, you won't get the required 4 QF sectors. CX is generally hard to get status regardless of cabin flown. If you won't fly BA, then likely your remaining option is AA which doesn't require any AA metal flying. I have heard AY is relatively easy to get status, but I haven't done the maths myself. |

Hi, I need some help regarding choosing a one world frequent flyer membership program. (1) What is most important to you in a FFP? Reply: Getting status to access priority check in and security and lounges for long haul flights from the UK. Miles earnings is a close second. Also, the FFP must not be BA (for reasons I won't go into here). (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? Reply: 6-10 segments of long haul flying per year, mostly in economy but also in premium economy when it is affordable. No short haul. (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? Economy/Premium Economy. (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Reply: Yes. Work. (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? Reply: Never the same route. Usually fly with *A at the moment. (6) What is your home airport? Reply: MAN/BHX (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? Reply: None in OW. *G in A3. I have 100k Amex points. 8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? Reply: Currently all *A, but have recently booked QR and CX. Both seem good options to India and East Asia so would like to use them again. |
help!
My mother is about to fly a CIRCLE PACIFIC 29,000mile ticket from ASIA-USA-SOUTH AMERICA-AUSTRALIA-ASIA in Business Class (MY-JL-AA-LA-QF-MY) and I am trying to figure out which is the best airline to credit the trip to.
Current Oneworld status is BA Bronze (from a previous trip round trip on BA Business Class), but have no plans to fly BA this year, so can't renew status... Important factors are: Maximizing Mileage Received & Good Award Redemption Rates (BA is pretty good for us for this) Getting Oneworld Status to be able to enter lounges on economy class travel (BA is not good for this because of minimum sectors)... Questions For members asking for information, to help people to assist you, can you please provide: (1) What is most important to you in a FFP? free lounge access good award redemption rates better award access (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? Reply: Not consistent... (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? (First, Business, Premium economy, Economy, cheapest) Reply: Economy & Business (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Reply: Yes, Travel for Pleasure (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? (US Domestic, Transpacific, Kangaroo, in Asia etc) Reply: Asia, Australia, USA, South America (6) What is your home airport? Reply: MAA (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? (AA Executive Platinum, QF Gold, UA 1K, LAN Comodoro, etc) Reply: BA Bronze (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? Reply: JL, CX (but don't fly on them enough to keep status) any ideas? thanks! |
Which program to use
Hi All I’ll be flying regularly now from UK to Chicago and to European destinations usually in economy. Currently got some flights booked for BA and AA so wondering which one to use 1) Status is important to me 2) lounge access, upgrades and booking better seats is important to me 3) I think I will fly enough to get to the next level by end of July but not to too end in a year 4) not interested in topping up unless it was to get to real top end or to keep points but ideally not pay at all 5) mainly AA to chicago 6)business traveller 7)no other way of topping up points as I am using Barclaycard platinum for foreign spend as it has 0% transaction fee and cash advance at 0% and business card for business |

BA is based on the month you join. It may be hard with AA to meet the AA revenue requirements with economy flights. But just do the calculations. Will depend on if you fly AA or BA flights, how many flights, what you pay, etc. Lounge access comes with mid level status or class of travel (business first). You may not get to mid level status. Upgrades USA Eu/UK are hard to get. A lot of people with high status wanting the same. Low priced fares may not be eligible to enter the upgrade contest, Just expect to fly in the seat you buy. |

I would really appreciate help on choosing the best FFP for us. We just booked our 1st RTW with OW through JAL. We intend to do another RTW also with OW through JAL as starting in Japan gives us the best price. We currently live in Thailand & are likely to do BKK-YUL, BKK-SEA, YUL-SEA routes once every year or 2 years between our other Asia/Europe explorations. We have family near SEA & MTL.
(1) What is most important to you in a FFP? Good Award redemption rates & better award access (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? 25000-50000 but different carrier & different alliances at this time (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? (First, Business, Premium economy, Economy, cheapest) Reply: Economy or Premium Economy when purchasing single segment. Business when using awards or purchasing RTW (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Pleasure (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? Asia & Transpacific (6) What is your home airport? BKK (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? No status yet. Delta 40K+ Chase Reserve 300K+ (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? |
Suggestions appreciated
Suggestions is much appreciated.
I currently have 2 Gold *A account; SQ PPS ad TK elite. Am thinking of starting a One World FFP account. A quick question too...….any OW airlines has a 2 years validity on their status?. (1) home airport - Singapore (2) miles flown each year & in what class? - approx. 100k (60/40 in J & Y class). Fly business for work and mix (depending on availability of reasonable J fares) for leisure (3) types of fares bought - fly business for work and mix for leisure depending on availability of reasonable J fares (4) choice of airlines/cabins. work and/or pleasure? For work generally would be SQ. Leisure is pretty mixed and mainly *A. (5) routes flown most often - Singapore to Europe, USA & Asia. (6) current FFP status - *A (SQ PPS *G and TK Elite Gold) (7) What is most important to you in a FFP? Good rates in J, (lounge access, extra baggage, priority boarding, upgrades when flying Y) (8) Preferred Airlines - SQ & TK Thank You |
I'm a little torn here, not sure if I should just credit the miles to my Alaska account, which is already decently accumulating miles, OR chase a OW status.
I've already got Star Alliance Gold, but even while researching maybe I'm dumb, but it seems a lot less readily available on HOW to qualify. I found it on the BA site, but found it difficult on multiple other ones to see how many miles I needed to fly to earn a status level. I'm also not a huge fan of lacking lounge access when flying within North America. (1) home airport - YVR (2) miles flown each year & in what class? - ALMOST exclusively Y, occasionally I'll fly J, but my flying is all leisure. I probably fly between 80-100k butt-in-seat miles a year. (3) types of fares bought - cheapo fares, it's all leisure, so I kinda go where I find good deals to. If J comes up, I'll buy it, but I'm 99% Y. (4) choice of airlines/cabins - Y almost entirely. Choice of airline would be based mostly on price or chasing a relevant status. With star gold I often pass up decent OW fares and pay up a little bit for Star. (5) routes flown most often - Wherever the wind blows, more like whatever happens to be cheap :) (6) current FFP status - *A (OZ Diamong - Star Gold) (7) What is most important to you in a FFP? Lounge access. I have no problem with lengthy layovers on cheap tickets if I know I have a place to relax, drink a bit, use a desk and wifi. Redemptions are important as well, reasonable rates/costs. Free seat selections across the alliance would be awesome, if that's even a thing. (8) Preferred Airlines - Literal answer...probably SQ, but I live in Canada with no SQ flights, so my most common airline is United, or to a lesser extent AC. So the reason I'm even asking about this is because I already have a short haul BA flight booked, then LHR-YVR in paid F, then YVR-LHR in PY, I think I'll earn some pretty decent credit there. The other reason being I'm trying to buy a ticket from Europe back to YVR and BA is coming up as a pretty great price, it would be in Y, but if it would let me hit status or something then it's more appealing. Flights already booked... LGW-TIA - cheapo Y OTP-LHR - cheapo Y LHR-YVR - "cheapo" F YVR-LHR - bought as the return on the "cheapo F" ticket in PY Planned booking... ZRH-LHR-YVR - cheapo Y YVR-LHR - cheapo Y |
Seeking Sapphires in the Skies :D
Good Weekend All!
I am very grateful for the information and insight this forum offers. I've found a few threads / question similar to but off the mark of what I would like to ask. I'm seeking to build up to OW Sapphire and maintain at least Ruby for the next several years and from my initial research, QF seems to check most of the items in my list BUT I've seen a lot of love for BA and AY on this forum and thus I would like to share my situation with the community and seek your advice, perhaps there is something I've missed in my own assessment. Thank you in advance and Happy Flying (1) What is most important to you in a FFP? (upgrades on travel, priority services when flying the airline, extra baggage allowance, good award redemption rates, better award access, free - discounted lounge access, etc.) Reply: top requirements, which in order of importance are; 1) Priority Check in 2) Priority Boarding 3) Lounge Access 4) baggage Miles earning and redemption are not that crucial for me, status benefits are the priority (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? (<25000, 25000-50000, >50000 miles - <25, 25-50, >50 flights?) Reply: about c. 25,000 to 60,000 miles (25,000 would be pleasure and work adds another 25,000 to 30,000) in economy 60%, in premium economy and business 20% each about 5 to 10 flights broken into 10 to 25 sectors (due to my location and choice of Airlines, I often have more transit options vs. direct flying options) (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? (First, Business, Premium economy, Economy, cheapest) Reply: economy 60%, premium economy and business 20% each (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Reply: yes and yes, I can choose both 75% pleasure and 25% work (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? (US Domestic, Transpacific, Kangaroo, in Asia etc) Reply: East Asia (within SEA and South to North) : 60% (most of my economy flights) SEA to Australia / NZ : 20% SEA to Europe : 20% For QF, I estimate it would be convenient to do 2 flights which would give 4 - 8 QF / JQ segments per year (the 8 comes from choosing transit options) BA and AY, I estimate I can consistently do 1 - 2 flights per year and segments would be 2 - 4 (6) What is your home airport? (SFO, SCL, London LHR, HKG, Singapore SIN etc.) Reply: I move around due to work and so I can easily chose flights originating from either BKK, SIN or KUL easily. In fact when travelling business fare for pleasure I compare itineraries originating from these three locations to seek the best fares. I also have little trouble transiting via ICN and HKG and have done so for the last two years (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? (AA Executive Platinum, QF Gold, UA 1K, LAN Comodoro, etc) Reply: OW Ruby from CX, I've had very little trouble maintaining CX Silver for a while now (due to travel destinations) but also have not been able to justify the cost of progressing to CX Gold *S Gold, I can maintain this with just half my existing annual travel so I've capacity for OW (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? Reply: preferred: SQ, CX, OZ, BR and (LH / LX) most common: TG, MI, MH (hence why I wish to build up OW status) and OD I have NEVER FLOWN on QF, BA or AY. I've seen positive reviews of QF and I could easily change my Australia / New Zealand flights to QF. |
looking for some advice on where to credit miles for an upcoming qr flight....i have top status with skyteam (through delta) & with star alliance (through air india) but don't use any one world carrier....this upcoming flight is probably the only one world carrier flight i will be taking in the foreseeable future....
i have booked 10 business class return tickets for myself & my family members on qr for travel between del - dfw....no one in my family is a member of any one world frequent flyer program (i am a member with ba & cx) so i would have to create accounts for all of them once i figure out where to credit the miles....therefore i'm looking to credit these miles to a program that allows family pooling.... any suggestions would be helpful.... |

Not pooling, but QF allow ff points(~miles) to be transferred between eligible family member for free.
https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/pr...amilyTransfers QF is generally a poor ffp. with high cash surcharges on awards Earn to burn is what needs to be considered https://www.wheretocredit.com/qr/j |

For both Passportinonehand and Noppasit I would imagine crediting to BA would be the best, as the most likely to attain Silver which will give lounge access and other OW Sapphire benefits across the globe. The only difficulty may be the 4 flights needed on BA/IB, although possibly that could be slotted in to a visit to Europe which both suggest would potentially be on their yearly schedule.

Newby looking for advice
Hi, taking my first long haul flight with AY to Singapore and not sure which OW programme to join. Flying with my significant other in discounted J. Was considering status challeng with AA, but not sure if it's worth it. Would consider flying BA if I can reach status with them.
1) What is your home airport? BRU (Brussels) (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? between 30-50K, economy intra Europe (Q,H,K), one long haul discount J to Asia (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? economy, discount J long haul (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or, class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Yes, but not the class of service. A mix of work and pleasure. (5) Which routes do you fly most often? Intra Europe, Vienna (6) Do you have FFP status of any kind of OW or other airline at present? *G with Agean, Silver with miles and more (7) What is most important to you in a FFP? Priority Check in, Priority Boarding, Lounge Access, baggage (8) Preferred Airlines Austrian, Lufthansa, SN ( because I fly them a lot for work) |
Hi everyone, I need some advice to pick a FFP program. I just looked at the flights that I’ve booked for next year and I noticed that I’m consistently flying with oneworld carriers, so I decided I want to join a program, but I need help deciding which one to join.
(1) What is most important to you in a FFP? Reply: Lounge Access, Priority/Extra Baggage (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? Reply: Around 50,000 miles, 2-3 round trips to SIN in Business, a round trip to US/JP and a few flights within EU in Economy so I would say around 40 sectors in total (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? Reply: Business (I or R) to SIN, Economy (L, N, O, Q, S or V) otherwise (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Reply: Yes, traveling for pleasure (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? Reply: QR to SIN, AY to US or within EU, JL to JP (6) What is your home airport? Reply: GOT, but I usually fly from OSL, CPH or ARN as well (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? Reply: No (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? Reply: Qatar Airways, Finnair and Japan Airlines Adding up the amount of status points I can get for the flights I have booked, I can easily reach oneworld Sapphire through BAEC Silver, QRPC Gold and AY+ Gold. I’d be around 300 TPs short of BAEC Gold, around 300 Qpoints short of QRPC Platinum, or around 70k TPs short of AY+ Platinum. I know generally BAEC is the recommended program to join here, and it’s much easier to get the 300 TPs needed for BAEC Gold (compared to how I’d essentially have to double my status points in QRPC and AY+). My question is, is it worth it to go with BAEC to attain oneworld Emerald? Like I said, 300 TPs within the year shouldn’t be an issue, especially since there are runs like UL to CGK. I think the bigger problem would be getting the 4 BA flights required, since I never fly BA. Though I could just do two roundtrips to LHR or maybe a roundtrip to somewhere else in Europe to reach that (I would never fly medium/long haul with them). Or I guess I could find codeshare flights. I think that with oneworld Emerald the only difference that I can feel is being able to access First Class lounges? Is there anything else I’m missing? The airports I most often fly through are DOH, SIN, HND and HEL, will it affect me much? The only positive I could think of is that I could status match it to TK to gain *G and decide to switch to flying on *A next year (which is possible since I love NH and SQ). Are there any downsides from joining QRPC or AY+ compared to BAEC? Or is there another program that’s better suited for me? I'd probably want to spend the miles I earn on award upgrades, so that's one reason to not join BAEC I guess. Thanks in advance, I’d really appreciate the help since I'm really new at this. |
Leaving Aadvantage, where in OW to go?
Dear all,
I have decided to show AA the loyalty it’s had towards me since the USAir takeover. As a four-to-six time per year traveler to the Middle East/India, from Chicago, I ask all of you, “Onto which OneWorld FF group should I alight?” British? RJ? Qatar? Cathay? My theory is, I’ll achieve status pronto, and then upgrades. But I cannot make sense of Avios, Q-miles, Marco Polo, etc. is there an established answer to this question? I wd like my days as a hamster on American’s wheel to end. Much obliged to any respondents. |

The one thing I can say is OW Sapphire or above on any OW carrier other than AA will get you Lounge Access for trips solely in North American. "I have decided to show AA the loyalty it’s had towards me since the USAir takeover." - What are you looking for from the other OW carriers you are not getting on AA? FF programs in general have changed quite a bit in recent years, as flights are fuller and airlines are making $Billions as opposed to having many years of losing money. so airlines are not giving away as much in their FF programs. That said, if choosing another carrier, I would think it would best to use the program of the airline you travel the most on. Also, if you travel quite a bit now,but are going to do less in the future, don't discount the value of lifetime status. I notice you haven't answered the questions normally answered in this thread. Those would be helpful, to give people more info to help in responding Original Poster . |

What class of travel? What airlines do you fly? Getting status may be a lot harder than you think. Jargon and ways to earn status/ff miles is different between frequent flyer programs. Non USA ffp's tend not to use the word miles for redeemable & status. Status generally uses a different word. [Is far simpler] Avios is the ff currency of BA, IB & others. Like AA redeemable freq flyer miles Cathay Pacific has Asiamiles (ff miles) & Marcopolo (status). Well explained in the CX forum Q-miles is the ff currency Qatar Airlines. How do think you will get upgrades? There is vast difference between upgrade practices between USA and non USA airlines. With non USA airlines always expect to fly in the cabin you buy. The USA ffp expectation/entitlement to upgrades does not happen with non USA ffp's. Extra luggage allowance, fast track security, lounge (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? Unsure about oneworld flights but usually 50+ flights a year/ short haul economy, long-haul business 20 flights (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? Short haul Economy, long haul business (8+ hours) (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Yes, mostly work (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? China domestic, China to Europe, China to US. Hainan Airlines, China Eastern, KLM (6) What is your home airport? Beijing Capital, Shanghai (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? Hainan Platinum, 80k, KLM Silver, 130k (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? Hainan, Delta, Eastern, Xiamen, Sichuan. |
(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
Lounge access, ability to change flights, baggage. Lifetime status with minimal renewal requirements. (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? 200k/yr, in discounted C and economy. Some intra-Europe shorthaul, otherwise mostly TATL/TPAC. Currently focused on Star Alliance (TK Elite Plus) and Alaska MVPG75K (via Condor/BA/etc.), but want OW status too. (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? Discounted business class, FF mile redemptions, or coach, in that order. (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Pretty flexible. I can even do F when it's a great deal factoring in status/miles, but $2-3k r/t C intl longhaul is my comfort point. (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? SJU/NYC origin, going to Europe (ZRH, FRA) and asia (TYO, HKG, BKK, SIN), and Brazil (GIG or GRU) Currently mostly fly DE LX CX LH AS JL SQ BA. Can shift JL and BA to OW program. Will add QR. (6) What is your home airport? SJU, also NYC and ZRH. (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? AS MVPG75K (600k), TK *G (80k) (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? DE JL NH SQ CX AS B6 LH LX (I'm basically most seriously considering JL so I can try to get JGC, mainly by shifting flights to JL CX BA and switching some FF redemptions to paid for 2020-2021, in the hopes of getting ~lifetime status. I can maintain AS and TK status fairly easily in addition.) |
To the collective, thank you in advance.
I am / always will be primarily a Star Alliance member. (1) What is most important to you in a FFP? Having the mileage points NOT expire with minimal effort. (For example, Air Canada requires activity in their account at least once a year) (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? 25,000 K - all on either Air Canada or ANA (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? Economy + (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? For "pleasure". Full flexibility to choose. . (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? ITM - HND - YVR - YVR - HND - UKB (6) What is your home airport? KIX, UKB, ITM (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? None (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? AC / ANA but it Cathay in OW I want to join OW mileage program that allows me to maintain the points relatively easily. Points that DO NOT EXPIRE in a year.... I probably will never be an ONE WORLD guy because of my homes located in Canada and Japan. AC / ANA is just too convenient to be locked into JAL program. However, while located in Japan, the need to use JAL / One World comes up every once in a while. Don't want those points to go to waste. With thanks |

Several have ff miles/points that will not expire if you have eligible activity in X months. X = 18 months for AA and 36 months for BA. The definition of eligible activity varies between ffp's. The ability to earn ff miles/points from non flying activities varies (hotel, rental cars, shopping, other etc). Is quite easy with AA. AA forum has a dedicated thread on this topic. BA allows family pooling (House hold account) Some low cost fares/buckets earn nil/little to any ffp, including to CX AsiaMiles Expiry thread (does not have all ffp's) Miles/Points that Do and Don't Expire. Click to open the wiki. Many ffp's have a hard expiry |

Lounge access comes with class of travel (business - first) or mid-high tier status. You will not get status with a few economy flights.

Just want to make sure I am using the best OW program to save and use my miles, no direct reason to change :-)
Having multiple ffp’s with low balances is never a good idea. You may never get enough ff miles/points to be of use before they expire. Adding frequent miles in a ff program that you can use, are worth more than ff miles in an orphan ffp that you will never use, even if the earning rate is nominally better. FFP’s are for the short to medium term. The grass in not always greener on the other side. More so if flying few cheap flights. |
Hello everybody, I'd be really happy to get some suggestions here :)
(1) What is most important to you in a FFP? Reply: 1. lounge access, 2. good value for mileage redemptions in business (or lower fuel cost) (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? Reply: 50'000+ Miles. About 30-40 flights a year. (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? Reply: economy cheapest or low cost if intra-european. Business for long-haul 6 hours + (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Reply: I can choose, but I pay myself, so usually prefer to choose cost effective option. I usually fly business if the return is under 2000 Euros, I'm mostly flexible with dates. (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? Reply: 2x per year or more to Asia. 2x per year to Americas (South or US) + 1-2x long hauls to Middle East, South Africa (...) (6) What is your home airport? Reply: BUD main. Secondary: VIE, ZRH (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? Reply: no. Have had Lan Emerald in the past (not very useful info, but it was great) (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? Reply: I like Qatar airways a lot. They have good deals in J out of Budapest. |
(1) What is most important to you in a FFP?
(upgrades on travel, priority services when flying the airline, extra baggage allowance, good award redemption rates, better award access, free - discounted lounge access, etc.) Reply: I would portion my interests in obtaining OW status accordingly: - 40% AA lounge access when flying domestically for work in mix of J/Y. - 25% AA upgrades domestically (obviously not realistically available if I don't choose AA as my program) - 15% ability to generate useful miles for booking J/F tickets - 10% OW status benefits internationally when flying Y (priority seating, baggage, etc) - 5% ability to book/cancel OW awards without penalty - 5% OW lounge access internationally (Most of my int'l travel is in J, so I'd be interested in OW F lounges if I can procure that status) (2) How many miles do you usually fly each year & in what class? How many flights/sectors? Reply: For OW purposes, I already have the following booked from Feb-Jul 2020: - JFK-LAX-MEL-SYD on AA in J (fare class R) - JFK-LHR-OPO on BA in F (fare class A) - CMN-MAD-DFW/LAX-JFK-MAD-CMN on AA in J (fare classes D/I, AA mistake fare) - JFK-HKG in on CX in F (fare class A, return on the CX mistake fare to Vietnam) I expect to otherwise fly about 50,000 miles domestically within the US in 2020. I would expect about 40,000 of those miles to be in Y and 10,000 to be in J. I'll fly about 60 segments across 20 tickets. (3) What types of fares do you usually buy? Reply: Economy with the occasional cheap J/F ticket internationally. (4) Can you choose your airlines and/or class of service? Do you travel for work and/or pleasure? Reply: I can choose my airlines. I can book J for work on flights over 2.5 hours; shorter must be in economy. I never fly internationally for work. Domestic, I can purchase J but typically purchase Y. (5) Which routes and airlines do you fly most often? Reply: Right now, I mostly fly DL domestically in a mix of destinations. I fly a lot from DCA around the East Coast, which is why AA has become more interesting to me. Many of the destinations I want to fly from DCA are better served by AA than DL, which is why I'm considering making a change. Internationally, I fly whatever award I can grab or whatever is cheapest with a lie-flat seat. (6) What is your home airport? DCA, with the occasional flight out of IAD. There's a chance I could end up closer to BWI by the winter of 2020. (7) Do you have FFP status of any kind in OW or other airline? What is it? Do you have any miles banked in a FFP? I don't have any OW status. In the past, I've held AB Gold from a status match and AA Plat from a Hyatt offer. Right now, I have about 90K BA miles and 70K QF miles. (8) Preferred Airlines? Most common Airlines flown on? I do like the idea of earning EK awards, although that would limit me to JAL. I like B6, although that's obviously not part of the program and perhaps irrelevant to the question at hand. I do prefer DL to AA, although AA's route dominance in DCA makes it more likely I have to consider AA. I prefer AA metal slightly to BA over the Atlantic, although I haven't had the opportunity to fly in preferred BA seats without status. I have only flown Iberia in inter-EU J and quite liked ending up in a weird cushy recliner as opposed to traditional EU J. I've only flown AY on the 350 from LHR-HEL and liked it. I'm very fond of CX but don't see myself traveling to southeast Asia very frequently in the years to come. |

I'm very fond of CX but don't see myself traveling to southeast Asia very frequently in the years to come. For awards check the earn to burn/cash co payments. Can be big differences. Both BA & QF have 4 flights on own airline/own flights rule for mid-top status (=lounge access). The exact rules are not the same. BA has more options with BA operated and IB marketed/IB operated OK. EK is also a ff partner of QF & AS. There are QF codehares on EK operated aircraft. KLM/AF is now a QF ffp partner on all flights BA, QF & EK and others are partners of Alaska AS ffp. But the list of AS partners is decreasing over time. AS status does not give lounge access on partners [QF may be an exception with AS mid-top status: not 100% sure] Presumably you do something to stop the BA avios & QF points from expiring. Worth checking the current expiry. To me I would have put BA & QF into 1 ffp. Traditional inter EU J is an economy seat with no one in the middle |
