There's an Australian White Goods retailer who invites people to "Pay Less, Pay Cash*" (*Cash == Cash or Debit Card)

You walk in, negotiate the price (which is in most cases, fairly less than the sticker price displayed in store), go to the check out counter. The debit card (with its low daily transaction limits) doesn't work. Pay by credit card. The retailer still charges the same negotiated price.

Win Win :D

There would seem to be the need for a difference between an "advertised" fare, and one that you dig out of website for some product which is for the average punter (i.e. the target of advertising) something quite obtuse. While the letter of the law may apply to the OW pricing, it's clearly an unintended consequence and not what the laws are aimed at preventing.

Heck, I can't even book a BA ticket from one week to the next without the YQ changing ... so even if you price up an itin with multiple carriers, and then book it a week later - odds on are that something in the fare make up will change in that time.

There is nothing stopping them, if they wanted to, to display a sample itinerary and quote the price inclusive of taxes. At one time I would be more ambivalent on it where taxes on a r/t to Australia were around $50 ; now that taxes are so significant , and fares disguised as taxes ( fuel fines), it is only right that they should be required to give an all inclusive price

I don't see how it is an unintended consequence

Of course, but that is the key. Instead of just publishing the base fares (which the website easily pull from a GDS or other fixed data source), they're now not allowed to tell you that base fare and instead redirect you to the full pricing tool to take your itinerary, dates into account. As the pricing tool was available previously, the net result is we lose one piece of information we used to have.

What happened to RTW fares on the One World website?

Either my internet browsing abilities have fallen off a cliff of late or I can't find the prices for RTW tickets, what has happened?

Gone from the OW web site but still available from EF but you'll have to searchon a country by country basis.

Thanks; I know Expert Flyer just didn't connect the abbreviation (EF) with it. I was searching for airlines (since we use two digit codes often) and the ones I found don't belong to *O.

E/F does return *O Fares.

Just search using a one world carrier that services the Airport you nominate as both the origin and destination (AA/BB/QF/LA etc.).
