Musing: Can purchased additional coupons be for additional trans-continental flights?
Musing: Can purchased additional coupons be for additional trans-continental flights?
The OWE rules have restrictions on trans-continental flights in Europe (rule 4h), North America (4l) and Australia (4m) The European restriction has additional wording stating that it applies "whether part of the free continent allowance of 4 coupons, purchased as additional coupons, or a combination of both" The restrictions for Australia and Nth America do not have this additional wording So, does that mean those restrictions allow extra trans-continental flights - provided they are purchased additional coupons? Has anyone managed to do this? Just musing... |
It's not in the rules but I asked that specific question (re N. America) to the AA RTW desk a few years ago and got a definitive "no."

My guess is also that they will say "no" but as always, I like pandaperth' thinking.

I think both these routing rules are sufficient to say that you can't buy an extra segment that would contravene these rules. I don't know that the fact that the European routing rules explicitly say you can't purchase a 3rd restricted segment change the fact that these rules say you can only fly one non-stop transcontinental flight or only fly a sector once in the same direction.
(l) Within the USA/Canada only one nonstop or single plane service transcontinental flight permitted. i) The same city pairs/sectors cannot be flown more than once in the same direction |

ALGERIA ARMENIA AZERBAIJ BAHRAIN BULGARIA 52N . CYPRUS . . . The long segments language in NA and AUS has always merely restricted the number of segments that may be flown between the selected cities and never differentiated between "free" or other segments. Again no one has ever reported that they successfully issued an xonex with additional purchased long segments. To get where you want to go with your argument you would have to say that the additional segments don't have to abide by the regular rules for the fare. I agree with 3544quebec and don't see this as being successful.
