Thanks, UA Fan . So that means that if I wanted to get an award ticket, say, ORD-STT, I could stop in MIA for a couple of days on the way? What does it consider as an AA hub? Obviously, ORD/DTW/MIA, but what about BOS or JFK?

Generally DFW, MIA, JFK, and ORD are considered hubs, but it does not mean that you can go from DFW-PHX through JFK. I think RDU, LAX, and BOS are focus cities, so some routings go through them as well.

On the basis that UA can count LAX a hub, AA should be able to as well considering the similar number of services they offer out of there.

Uh boy... I just was corrected on the AA forum on this point with the same argument. AA calls LAX a hub too. Given what has happened with BOS and RDU of late, not sure either qualifies as a focus city any more.
