Any oneworld connection americas/afrika?
Is it possible to get a connection between Americas & Afrika without touching Europe? A land segment can be used with DONE?
|
Not on OW metal, AFAIK. One needs to transit through another continent to get from the Americas to Africa - Europe, Asia, or SWP.

In regards to surface sectors: In principal they are allowed. However, surface sectors between T2 (Africa/Europe) and T1 (North/South America) are not allowed unless you started your journey in South West Pacific. |

It won't be possible unless MX, AA or LA starts a nonstop flight to Africa or QF did something like extending QF17/18 and/or QF63/64 for a EZE-JNB leg. |

So, if I understand, I am allowed to make something like this: JNB/SWP/SOUTH AND NORTH AMERICA/Transit SYD/JNB. Thanks |

Surface sectors don't matter with regard to how many continents are counted. If a continent is touched, it counts; or in the case of ORD-DEL, Europe counts even if it isn't touched.
|
While surface sectors are generally allowed, certain intercontinental surface sectors are specifically prohibited. As a result you cannot travel between Africa and the Americas by surface segment if that is what you were asking originally (or the Americas and and any other continent other than S. America for that matter unless one originates in the SWP, see the exception below).
(g) Intermediate surface sectors are permitted at the passenger’s expense. Transoceanic surface sectors between TC1-TC2 and TC1-TC3 are not permitted. EXCEPTION: For travel originating in the South West Pacific, one transoceanic surface sector between TC1-TC2 or TC1-TC3 is permitted. |

Thats what we all thought. However we just established that this is actually not correct and Europe is not counted:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onewo...ly-better.html Nonstop transatlanticTravel on AA between DEL and ORD is permitted. For travel ex South America/South West Pacific- when this service is utilised a minimum of a 4 Continent Fare must be charged. For travel ex North America/Asia - when this service is utilised a minimum of a 3 continent fare must be charged. |
