AC doesn't update it often then. At least 2 747-475s have already left the fleet with the last one to be gone by end of October.

The AC 433Ms are P-W powered but they are also combis which aren't worth NW's attention unless NW does need combis. The -475s apparently need D checks and are GE powered in any case.

Well according to:

at least one of the 400s looks like it's spending some time at KEF right now.

When did Richard Anderson ever allude to NW purchasing the 773? Everything I've heard him say is that the 777 family is too big an aircraft for NW.

When two 330s or 340s can be had for the price of one 777, the choice is obvious. (I'm over-exaggerating, but you get the idea.)

If B744 segments average more pax than a single A330 or A340 can carry, do you replace a B744 with two A340s? The point being that some current B744 city/pairs would fill a B777, esp. when US/Asia traffic improves.

I personally think the windshield wiper announcements are part of NW's negotiation strategy. There's probably a place at NW for all three types, B77x, A33x, and A34x.

It wouldn't make any sense for NW to operate both the B777 and A340 - if they choose to purchase the B777 or A340, it'll be one or the other. Richard Anderson has maintained that the B773 (*and if they purchase the B773, I bet they'll purchase the B772) is the favorite... I'm sure if NW really wanted the B777, then Boeing will really want to sell it to them -- and probably match Airbus's prices... although Airbus may be a bit cheaper (with economics of the B777 / price of PW engines / etc. making up for the price difference). What about the 773ER or 772ER? Granted the 773ER has GE power http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

All 777-200s on offer are the ERs. You must be thinking of the -200LR. NW doesn't need the range of this bird (as of yet). The -300ERs would be good as 747-200 replacements. All depends on how much capital NW has to spend. Another FTer whose little airline will be (dry?) chartering a 742 tells me while the A340 is more fuel efficient than a 742, it costs about 2.2x more per hour, including capital cost, than the 742. I imagine a 777-300ER will cost about the same magnitude (hence why NW is hanging on to the DC-10s, DC-9s and 742s).

If the 773 or A340 offered such a decrease in costs like the A330 did (even with the payments included), I'm sure they would be jumping to get a new order out now. But as it is, it seems like the differential in costs isn't as big as NW would like. But I don't know, this is a view from an "outsider" who doesn't know much about what's going on inside NW. (without IP's help, that is. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif)

Well according to the NWA Fleet Plan they have 14 A330-300's on order with an option for another 36, and 10 A330-200's on order. Looks like they got a big enuff order put, and with the options on the A330's and 744's, I think that NW has their fleet game plan in order...
