Most Shameless ebay auction EVER.

Folks, came across this. If that link doesn't work, go to ebay.com and pull up item # 120178959495

Someone is auctioning off, for $4.99 Buy It Now, 500 miles. Can anyone guess which 500 miles it would be? Here's the text of the auction:

Email Link!
Redeam for 500 Northwest Airlines Worldperks!

Due to eBay rules, actual airline miles cannot be sold on ebay. Therefore, you're NOT bidding on 500 miles, rather you're bidding on an email link (you will have to go redeam the 500 miles yourself).

The process will take 1-2 minutes - you need to answer a few simple questions, and I'll even give you the answers! If you have ANY problems redeaming your miles, I'll cheerfully refund your money.

There are 5 separate email links, each is worth 100 miles. Click through all 5 and redeam 500 points!

Shipping is FREE on this auction. Miles will post to your account IMMEDIATELY.
Who is willing to bet that this person is trying to sell you the links to the 5 different WorldPerks University quizzes... seeing as they each earn you 100 miles. They don't even mention that you cannot redeem the 500 if you have already played the quizzes... of course to tell someone that would also tip them off that you can go to the website and take the quizzes on your own for free!

I'm going to report the item. If my guess about the University quizzes is correct, this is a total scam. How pathetic.

I think it's a great idea to make money. :o The guy is clearly explaining that he is selling a URL and if someone is willing to pay - what's the problem?

cheers,

Maybe I should start auctioning off a link for 15,000 miles! All you have to do is answer a few questions... like name, address, Soc. Sec. #, phone... let's see, what else do you need to sign up for a Visa card? :D

This auction is just a sign of how awry things have gone in the world today.

Doesn't sound like a scam to me.

They are selling information to assist those that need it.

Much better than the Xbox box auctions that were popular on ebay a few xmas seasons ago. You are bidding on a BRAND NEW XBox box!!!!

And that is indeed what you would get, the box that used to contain an xbox for the bargain price of $400.

Or the hundreds of wonderful 'Mystery Auctions'. Search for them on Ebay now and don't miss out!

I have purchased only 2 items from Ebay in the past 5 years, and both items were from people in my local city where I insisted on an in-person exchange at a supermarket parking lot.

Preinspection before delivery acceptance is a must.

Not a scam but I felt the seller should be 100% thorough with the description, how the buyer will not receive miles if they already taken the University courses.

Well, he says in his pitch:
"If you have ANY problems redeaming your miles, I'll cheerfully refund your money"

So it sounds like the scenario of having already taken the courses would end up as a push.

If he gave the disclaimer about University courses, people might Google for it and cheat him out of out of his commission. The refund policy fills that gap.

No... the most shameless airline-related eBay auction belongs to the fella a few months ago trying to sell a used UA paper ticket jacket.

Six pages of thread on this one!

I see it as how the entrepreneurial spirit is still alive and well.

However from a marketing standpoint I would have used the

buy it now

Hardly anything from NW is transferable, so you should really never buy any coupons, vouchers, etc. from eBay unless you're prepared to deal with the consequences (NW can and will retroactively debt your account, close it, etc. as is their right).

There are a lot of unscrupulous people on eBay. As always, caveat emptor.

That theory should close down the coupon connection and invalidate a lot of ft members accounts then

The coupones they offer for missed or late flights. Ask for your FF#, so I guess you could sell them, versus redeem them yourself.

That is a big, ugly, unwarranted statement. "A lot?" Relative to what? There are more than 200 million users worldwide. I suppose if even .005% of them are "unscrupulous" that's "a lot" of people. But as a % of sellers, it's absolutely NOT "a lot." And probably magnitudes of order less than any other online site with individual sellers (i.e., craigslist, Amazon Marketplace, etc., etc).

The fact is that eBay is one of the safest places to do business anywhere in the world.

Not to mention the fact that it's super easy to get PayPal refunds from disputes (the burden of proof is always on the seller), or your credit card company, or eBay.

I would say that "buyer beware" applies less to eBay than almost anywhere else.
