EUA never works!
 
Whenever I take a flight, the EUA system never works even though there are FC seats available, and I always call it in or get it at the gate. Has anyone else had this problem?

One more thing...do Silver Elites for NW have an elite phone line? Will we ever get one?

NW Silver Elite is a cruel joke of a level... The worst is CO upgrades on tickets made day of departure or after midnight

Why don't you use your Platinum status on CO instead of being Silver on NW?

I would suggest using your CO Plat. Elite on NW, too.

The EUA system works, as long as your Elite number is in your reservation. There are also two "buckets" of availability for First Class. There is P, which is for full-fare first class, YUP- fares. Then there is F class which is for discounted First Class, upgrades, etc. If F class shows 0 in availability and only P remains, then the system will put your name on the Processing List to be cleared by the gate agents.

It seems that some seats are kept to the side (depending on the mix of Plat/Gold/Silver Elites) until the day of departure to try and sell those seats in First Class.

You should also look at how your name on your reservation compares to the name on your WP account. The computer reads the full last name and the first 2 characters of the first name. These must match exactly to achieve an upgrade. You can ask the agent over the phone if the computer has even tried to do an upgrade... if it has, it will say either 'no space' or 'name mismatch'.
