Very disappointed to find out that the IFE isn't changed monthly, but quarterly! Did this just happen, or has it always been like this?

What inflight entertainment?

That's exactly what I was thinking. hehe

I assume the OP means the VOD system of the A333s.
Mind you, with about 15~20 movies to choose from, you must be a serious flyer to go through all of them in a month...

Well if you're on a 10 hour flight both ways, and like 6 out of the 20 movies they're playing, I can imagine it getting boring *real* quick.

Well one long haul you could easily eliminate half of them, then the way back there goes another set, then lets say you travel again in the same quarter, but a different month - same route - you've basically seen everything. I bet its cheaper though to do it quarterly VS monthly...

Feb: DTW-FRA on 330
March: DTW-KIX in WBC on 747-400 (2 14 hour flts = lots of movies!).

I just wish they'd actually USE the ife screens (not in-seat, but overhead) on longer domestic 757 runs. It's comical to see those things hanging there and not even be used for safety demos like most modern airlines do!!

NWA has IFE? Come on, dude! If you don't fly internationally, NWA has NO IFE. Not even hot FAs doing gymnastics moves in the aisles.

Yeah, I'd LOVE some IFE on a 3 to 4 hour flight...I'd personally gladly pay for it...but I think you'll see hot meals in Y before you see domestic IFE.

DO you guys honestly watch those "edited" movied they show...typically it's something I would never have seen on my own so with the current system I just pull out the laptop and put in something I do want to watch....

Bogey90 Mar 8, 2006 7:28 am

Hhhmmm. Will technological advances make IFE screens and equipment so cheap that NWA will eventually provide it on all flights?

On the other hand, maybe NWA is right about this. With devices like the Ipod and Microsoft Origami, maybe we will all be carrying entertainment systems with us.

themicah Mar 8, 2006 7:47 am

Keep NW IFE-free!

I'd much rather read a book or sleep or watch my own DVD on my laptop. Having a screen blabbing infomericals in my face that I can't turn off just sucks, because I find it very hard to tune out. Plus they stick those stupid metal boxes under the seats, stealing half my legroom.

Give me a power plug over a PTV any day!

I don't think the PTV movies are edited. If they are, then someone made a mistake, because I watched a very unedited version of The Wedding Crashers on my last flight to LGW.

I travel mostly for leisure, so don't HAVE to lug around extra stuff with me, and I certainly try to travel as lightly as possible, so I find IFE a blessing on longer flights.

BigFlyer Mar 8, 2006 10:01 am

Unless there has been a change in the last few months, most are edited, with one or two that are not. In contrast, KLM does not edit any of the movies on its VOD.
