exit row fee?
 

I had heard a rumor about a month back from a gate agent that NWA wants to charge a premium, like many other carriers, for the exit row. Anyone hear anything more about this? Think this will filter to elites or apply only non-elites?

What other carriers charge $ for an exit row seat?

VS is one prominent example. There are lots of LCC, Charter and semi-charter companies that do this as well.

United flights now has a price tag of between $24 and $99, unless you're an elite-level frequent flier. Virgin Atlantic also charges....

It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see NW start this program. Package it as "Confirm your reservation for the exit seat that you deserve for just $**.00 per flight segment" or something along those lines. :rolleyes: Let's just hope they keep the price under three asterisks.

They should also charge extra to sit in an aisle or window seat, or in bulkheads. They could put coin slots into the overhead bins and charge for the use of that space like a locker. They could charge $.50 for pop and start charging for alcohol in international flights. The beancounters are going to be busy!

McDonalds (traditional French dining) works on the streets of Paris.

Many airlines already charge for alcohol on international flights in economy and some European airlines charge for soft drinks. The times they are a changin.

I believe the NWA/KLM agreement prevents them from doing that.. but when the new one comes.. you never know!

Charging for exit row seats? It's been shown here that NW wouldn't be the first, but what a way to hit elites where it hurts. They're holding back more seats then ever before in hopes of people paying to upgrade to F. Now if they charge for exit row seats, those 12 seats will likely be gone by the time elites book their 14-day advance purchase tickets. Boo, NW. :td: Show some spine and don't follow UA and others. You need your loyal customers...watering down your elite product (even further) creates no real reason for an elite to stay with you instead of heading to AA, UA, US, CO, ...

They can't even charge for F and give them away, how could they charge for Exit Rows?

If they did this, I would guess it would probably be for non-Elites on day of departure only. Similar to selling F upgrades at the gate, but for a lesser cost.

I know a lot of non elites that would pay $25+ for an exit row.... Just like the non elites that will pay for the e-first upgrades....

I, too, know a lot of people who would just pay 2-digits (whatever amount) for a confirmed exit row. They like to fly airlines like Sun Country out of MSP because Sun Country will sell them a guaranteed FC upgrade for $75 or something, therefore they don't see the point flying NW, not even for miles, better connections, etc. And Sun Country serves cheeseburgers in-flight, which apparently is a big plus for them. Mind you, I'm talking about people that fly once or twice a year. Frequent travelers understand these differences...well, differently. :)

Cheeseburger eh? Might almost be worth it to jump programs.... :p
