upgrade problems?

Now, I know the 6 day platinum upgrade isn't guaranteed, but it seems the norm lately for me.

That said, my flight on the 15th didn't upgrade 6 days out. Wasn't concerned, but then the 5th day passed yesterday and still no upgrades. Nothing today either.

A call to NWA confirms there's lots of R, but nobody is getting upgraded. Anyone else having problems with this upcoming weekend?

fromYXU May 11, 2005 11:17 am

Do we need another "I didn't get upgraded" thread. Lots of them recently, just add to it.

If you want folks to help out, please give us details regarding dates and flights!

3 different people, 12 different flights. All confirmed to have R.

This is not an "I didn't get upgraded" whine - I'm sure it eventually WILL happen. It's a question if others have had upgrades come through for this weekend yet.

fromYXU May 11, 2005 12:03 pm

A bit of work would and you would see this thread:
Elite Upgrades Running Early?
Early gold upgrade - Thanks NW
This suggests that EUA works fine for them.

But others have reported problems:
New Upgrade Policy?
EUA Delay?
Please Run EUA!

All I am suggesting is that we do not start new threads about the same topic every other day!

Also, give us specifics so we can comment regarding your situation, otherwise it is just a whine!

Yes, upgrades did come through for this weekend.

Flying BUF-DTW-MEM-TPA-MEM-DTW-BUF. Upgraded for 5 of the 6 segment.
Only one missing MEM-DTW.

Casey.

My upgrades for the 1st portion of my RT came through yesterday (MSY-MSP, MSP-DTW, DTW-ALB). Will find out tomorrow if the return has cleared or not... Wish me luck!!

Finally, what are peoples' success rates with companion upgrades recently? I am trying to upgrade the fiancee on Sunday (ALB-DTW, DTW-MSY) and want to know what my chances are of me sitting in the back of the bus (while she is enjoying my seat up front :p )

I have four segments this weekend. None of them has cleared, although one is still showing P9 F9. Avail on the others has meanwhile dwindled. Definitely something weird going on...

I agree.

I'm flying MSP-ATL this weekend on an award ticket. There was plenty of "A" inventory available to upgrade into so I expected to be upgraded 5 days out, which would have been Sunday. Didn't hear anything from EUA.

Yesterday I found that Golds on restricted tickets had already been upgraded for Friday's flight (by EUA, 3 days out), so obviously I got skipped. I'm like, what gives?

So I called the Plat Elite line and asked the agent how this could have happened. She put me on hold for about 10 minutes, and when she came back she had manually upgraded me. No explanation other than "somehow you fell through the cracks." Gee, thanks. But at least she corrected the situation promptly and even upgraded my return at the same time. ^

So much for EUA. Although I wouldn't normally bug the Elite agents with this, judging from the other posts on here something is awry. If you suspect you got skipped, I'd give the Elite line a call and have them check it out.

hyunja May 11, 2005 3:04 pm

EUA for PE on flights using 1-2-3 Free Spring 04 Promo

I got upgraded 5 days out for FNT>DTW>LAX on May 6. It was a total surprise, especially since the T&C says no upgrade. The return flights on May 8, LAX>MSP>DTW>FNT cleared 5 days out, too.
So NWA is great in my book.

I have confirmation just now that NONE on the upgrades for 5/16 (platinums) have run today. They said there is a "bug with the program and we're working to fix it."

Alpha Golf May 12, 2005 8:37 am

Just called them. "It's trying to upgrade you, but nothing is available" -- even allegedly on the P9 F9 segment, now four days out. :td: Still 0/4. I'm also on an award ticket -- wonder if they've kicked those down.

SchmutzigMSP May 12, 2005 10:06 am

(Sorry from bringing up from the depths, and a bit OT)

Wait, so award travel is eligible for free EUA if you're an elite member? So you can pay the standard non-rule buster miles for coach and potentially get an EUA to F?

News to me if true, but I'm still new to award travel (haven't booked much)...

It's ok, my Sunday flight shows P8 F6 R4 according to the elite line people, but "it has not run on your flight yet."

We're only 4 days out here....this is odd.

See you at DCA today Alpha? :)

I'm seeing about the same: Cabin class: P4 F4 Y5 B4 M4 H1 Q1 V1 L1 T1 K1

Wasn't expecting that one to clear, but my return for Monday was P9 F9 a few hours ago -- and just went to P2 F2. I bet they ran the &%*%&(%(&%( golds. Still not cleared.

I suspect plats on award tickets are now below golds on discount fares, based on my experience and Rich MSP's.

Plat upgrades on award tix come out of A inventory... and on a DCA-DTW or MSP flight those are zero'd out weeks in advance.

Alpha Golf May 12, 2005 3:24 pm

<huge sigh> Thanks Zip -- that would explain. I'm also batting zero on my MSP-RNO-MSP legs. Had I known, I would have paid a ticket, maybe on WN -- where at least the snacks are free.

Only other time I took a domestic award, they all cleared at five days, normally.

True. And this might explain why Alpha Golf wasn't upgraded.

However, in my case I know for a fact that multiple "A" seats existed several days in advance and I still got skipped. EUA enters a remark in your PNR if the process is unsuccessful due to seats not being available. No such remark appeared in my PNR and Golds had definitely been upgraded ahead of me.

Alpha Golf May 12, 2005 3:38 pm

How did you find out A inventory?

Any good places to eat at MSP? <sniff>

Good inside source.

As for food, I noticed they recently opened a new French Meadow Bakery on the F (old Red) Concourse but haven't tried it yet. The one on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis is well known. Otherwise, there's always TGIF on C, Chili's on G, and D'Amico & Sons or Split Rock Bar & Grill in the main terminal.

Good luck on scoring a battlefield upgrade! (And keep in mind even if you do, the only choice for dinner will be to eat or not. )

And right now that sounds so appealing!

Checkin in 17 minutes, give or take 10 seconds.

Few weeks ago, my DTW-SFO flight showed P0 F0.

But I still got upgraded at the gate. Not just myself, but also with my companion as well

So never give up hope.

Oh red tail, please forgive your faithless servant...

None of four cleared in advance (DCA-MSP-RNO-MSP-DCA). Were all showing P0 and P1 at various times. OLCId all of them. And got all four on battlefield.

For RNO-MSP yesterday, two of us got it at gate, three more plats left in back. MSP-DCA I asked at counter; she reflexively said no, didn't clear. Then with a start asked ny name and said "oh yes yours did."

We love you Red Tail. Now please restore the catering...

RNO is a tough UG market...after being spoiled by living outside ABQ and UGing on every flight I ever had in or out as a Silver, I moved to RNO in November, became Gold at the end of the month, and since then have had a 0% success rate on outbound flights, and 66.67% success rate on inbounds.

One of the NW staff told me that ski season is very bad for UGs, but things are better when that calms down...it may be true, as I actually UGd three days in advance for my RNO-MSP and MSP-LGA flights tomorrow!

hawkeye87 May 17, 2005 3:30 pm

I was wondering what luck anyone was having upgrading to/from MSP DTW? I fly this route r/t every week and only get a rare bump up. The flights are generally packed so I guess there are plenty of Plat. and Gold (my level). Would calling the WP elite line help? I now just wait to see if I clear automatically. Looking for any suggestions (besides buying a Y tick).

Can you change your flight times? I UGd a couple times last year as a Silver; both were mid-day flights on 757s. Some combination of the time of day and/or the good ratio of F/Y seats on the 757 seemed to help (one flight was also on a $1600 B fare ticket, which may also have helped).

Last Friday was the first time I have flown the route, but I was upgraded at the beginning of my Gold window, no problem. Actually, when I went in to change my seat assignment, there were only 3 other people in the (large) cabin.

As another poster mentioned, I was on the 757 flight mid-morning (~11ish?).

Ski season is pretty well winding down, which is probably why my recent UGs came through, but it was a bigg issue in the winter. I think there are also a fair number of meetings/trade shows that draw Elite sales reps--on my flight out on Wednesday, for instance, there were a lot of people from a farm equipment meeting talking to each other at the gate. The Reno area is also growing quite rapidly, with both people and businesses fleeing the relativly high cost of living and tax situation in CA.

Left SEA on the redeye last wens nite on a SEA-MSP-FLL routing. Upgraded for the SEA-MSP leg 5 days out, but did not get upgraded on MSP-FLL leg until the gate in MSP.

Already upgraded for the return on tue, FLL-DTW-MSP-SEA.

This trip gives me 67 EQS, and I have been upgraded on all domestic segments, and was op-up'ed on 3 of 5 intl segments.

I admit it.....I am now addicted to upgrades. Hope the present policy does not change.
