Need help getting between KIX and NRT!

Hi all,

As a result of NW not running service between KIX and TPE, I have this NW routing which requires me to figure out how to get between KIX and NRT. I have tickets from MSP-PEK-MSP, with a stopover in NRT on the way back. Then, I'm going KIX-TPE on an award ticket on NW. How can I get between KIX and NRT? Does the bullet train run this route? Also, once in NRT, is there a hotel close and convienient from the airport? I'd be arriving at KIX in the morning, but would want to be at NRT by the next day for the afternoon flight from NRT-MSP.

Anybody done this before? Only if NW wasn't silly and put TPE out of KIX, I wouldn't be having this problem!

Thanks,

Easiest way is to take the airport bus between NRT/HND(tokyo)
and fly HND/KIX 1 day advance purchase fare is 8000-12000yen,
Full Y is 15000yen+, J class on JL is only 1000yen extra.

You can also fly NRT/ITM(osaka) if your itinerary fits.
Only 1-2 flight/day, same fare as HND/KIX

Taking train is harder if you have luggage.
Narita Airport sta - TOKYO sta (NRT express train, 3000yen)
TOKYO sta - Shin-Osaka sta(Bullet train 14000yen)
Shin-Osaka sta - Kansai Airport sta(2500yen)

I think you could also use NW miles to fly NRT-KIX or ITM. I think it's 15,000 miles for a Japan domestic ticket on JAL/JAS.

Since you arrive kinda early in the day into NRT, I'd go to ITM, check in at your hotel, and maybe try to get to Osaka Castle or hang out downtown, since the TPE flight won't leave till the next day mid-afternoon or early evening. There are lots of airport buses going from downtown to KIX for your next-day connection.

it is costly to travel between NRT and KIX

costly to travel between NRT and KIX either by train or flight
so it wont be so bargain to go to KIX just to take the reward flight
KE will start regular flights between TPE and ICN very soon
probably from NOV
so guess u can redeem NRT to TPE by KE through ICN with 20k reward
for this routine
it will make things easier..

or u just simply buy NRT to TPE fare..it wont be so costly.compared with dometic travel in japan

by the way, welcome to Taipei

just for updating information,
There's no direct flight between NRT/KIX, only NRT/ITM.
JAS no longer is in service, every flight is under JL# now.
JL award can be redeemed for 15000 miles on HND/ITM or HND/KIX
Due to heavy transit demand,No award availability on NRT/ITM.

There's another way to refund the award, purchase NRT/TPE on
other carriers. If you're flying Couch, NRT/TPE is slightly more $$$
than NRT/ITM or HND/KIX
Deeply discounted NRT/TPE fare on CI or BR is around $300-350 RT.
Discounted Business(J fare) on CI is $750-850 RT.

... or try to do an award ticket on UA... they fly TPE-NRT. This abandoning TPE by NW is really stupid IMHO. Although if the CAN flights to DTW go direct (which they have the authority for) vs the one stop in NRT, I`m guessing NRT-TPE will be back by mid/late 2005

Could you not incorporate the JAL domestic flight into your TPE award for the same amount of miles? I thought you could mix and match partners for awards.

That may not be a bad idea.. the tix are already confirmed, so I don't know how much the change fee would be..but if it's' less than $200, it might be worth it.

Are you suggesting that I might be able to get

KIX-TPE-KIX-HND (Haneda) for the same # of miles as KIX-TPE-KIX? If so, that'd save me the $200 or 10k miles for getting a domestic segment on JAL from KIX-HND? Too bad I can't redeem rewards on JAL from TPE-NRT, that would be the most ideal
