744 @ Phl?

I don't think there is but does NW provided 744 service into PHL??? Reason I ask is that about 20 minutes ago, while in a "ramp closure", I saw a NW744 take off ... was just after 7pm. I couldn't think of a diversion either since most of their 744s fly to Asia. Thanks!

NW does not fly scheduled 744s into PHL. They do fly NRT-JFK. Could have been a diversion or a charter. There is I believe (or at least used to) a 744 that sits overnight at JFK for about 20 hours unless it is ferried elsewhere for a quick replacement trip or charter. Perhaps that was the A/C you saw. - H

As a NY controller, I can tell you NWA 18 from NRT, diverted from JFK to PHL today. We have had level 5 weather for the most part of the afternoon. There have been many diversions, some to PHL, SWF, BOS, ALB, YUL, SYR.
Flights in and out of all 3 majors have been interupted all day.

PHL was much better. Looks like they were stuck on the ground for 3 hours today.

I had family booked on the 2:30 DCA-LGA Shuttle yesterday. They got in at 10:30.

Any idea why they wouldn't have diverted this flight to DTW? It must have just about flown right over DTW, and you'd think they would have known long enough before to be able to bring it in there. Operationally, I'd think DTW have been much more capable of accomodating a 744 for an uncertain period of time than PHL.

I'd guess PHL is adequate...they sure could accomodate the Air Force One 747 back in (I think) 1998. Talk about flight disruptions.. Grrrr!!!!!!
