OMNY Trip History
It's been noted in a few threads here that OMNY.info no longer lets you see your actual trip history. You can see your progress toward free rides, but that's it. I emailed them to ask for a printout of my trip history that I could use for reimbursements and they said to call. I called and they said that there is no way for them to obtain trip history at all anymore. She said even the CSRs can't see anything more than we can see on the website.
The CSR suggested using my card statement to get reimbursed, but card statements don't provide the information required to get reimbursed. Nor can I tell from a card statement whether any of the charges are improper (I have three family members using the same credit card for OMNY, so I need to see the station and time info to know if someone got charged for a double-tap or something). This pretty much kills the utility of OMNY. As much as I prefer tapping to swiping a metrocard, if I can't actually see the trips I'd rather use Easypay Metrocard, which still has all the trips on a website. Has anybody figured out a way to get trip history for OMNY like they used to provide on the website? |
I have gotten reimbursed from my transit FSA account using a credit card statement but maybe that's not the type of reimbursement you're looking for.

I posted an example of the Apple Wallet transaction detail in this thread, it has the date/time and merchant, but not the specific location (for some reason every other merchant transaction shows the location of the merchant on a map, not sure why they can't do that for MTA charges.
But maybe the credit card companies need to put pressure on the MTA - start charging back "unknown" charges if the merchant is unwilling or unable to provide you with the necessary details. |
Most companies dont require proof for under $25 or so...so just put through a bunch of tiny reimbursements so you dont need a receipt

Weird. Used my iPhone cc this morning and went thru fine. Then over an hour later got three successive emails within 2 minutes:
• Your travel card has been suspended • Your payment issue has been resolved • Your travel card is now active I thought maybe that meant they brought back the Trip history, but just checked and it's still not available. Just the progress toward 7-day fare cap. |
I've occasionally gotten those emails. I think sometimes there's a hiccup where the credit card company rejects a charge for some reason (probably some fraud detection algorithm) but then OMNY tries it again and it goes through.
On the reimbursement front, for several months I was submitting credit card statements to Wageworks/Healthequity to get reimbursed for my transit benefits, since you couldn't add a Wageworks/Healthequity debit card to ApplePay. But they finally enabled ApplePay for their cards a few months ago so now I just use that. I'm missing out on some Chase points, but those points aren't anywhere near worth the hassle of redacting credit card statements every month to send in. |

Bringing back old thread. Seems there are widespread issues with MTA double-charging OMNY users. Does anyone have experience how to 1) find out your details trip history 2)get reimbursed by MTA for double-charges 3) prevent double charging going forward?
I don't have an actual OMNY account. I use my commuter benefits card in my Apple Wallet as payment card and use that on turnstiles. The charge history on my card website shows date only, not time. I know i'm being double charges when on a given day i took only 2 trips (one rountrip) without any transfers and there are 4 charges. Is it helpful to set up an OMNY account? |
I’d be careful - it’s possible the date on your commuter card transaction history is the charge posting date, which is usually a day after the transaction date. I’m pretty sure that’s what’s happening in my account with what look like might be extra charges. But yes, this lack of usage history and obfuscation of the details is really maddening.

It really bothers me that I can’t see whether I got the free transfer on the OMNY card like I could on my old Metrocard.
|
It looks like Trip History is back.
But it's not nearly as informative as it used to be:

I have seen transfers consistently; they appear as "Free Transfer". Strange they are not appearing for you?
I really wish the turnstile screens would show TRANSFER vs just GO. Such a large screen, so little info displayed. Metrocard of course displayed free transfer after swiping. |

Also, there seems to be some decoupling between the turnstile card read and the actual accounting on the backend, as we've seen both with the recent delayed charges and the "upgrade" a couple of weeks ago where you couldn't add value to OMNY cards over the weekend. (From what I could tell, it was possible to run a negative OMNY card balance until the system came fully back up.) I suspect all this makes it more complicated to display things like transfers, prepaid balances, or whether you hit the fare cap. |
