How long is the contract? If it's less than a year, just don't put any FF# during booking but keep all your boarding passes, for UA you have upto 12 months to reclaim the miles.

By the way, I believe the US Gov has a rule (perhaps not so often followed) that all miles earned on US Gov biz must be used for Gov related flights. Although, most Gov travel is apparently at low negotiated rates which are not supposed to earn miles.

The Defense Authorization Act around the end of 2002 gave all miles to the traveller. I have posted the citation to and quotation of the specific provision in another thread. I was a federal government employee at the time.

It was the case the government employees traveling on tickets purchased by their employer could not use the miles they earned. (No way for others to use them, but that didn't matter, it was all about what was perceived to be proper and improper in government service.) That went out the window years ago, though, so government employees can earn miles/points and use them for their own personal purposes.

Correct, although many agencies actually did require you to keep a personal accounting of miles used, and then actually did use some of them. I considered status bonus miles to be "mine."

Turning to the original topic, glad you were able to resolve this, UNITED959. If anyone else has this problem, I would print out a copy of the frequent flyer program Terms and Conditions, highlight the applicable non-transferrability clauses, and provide them to the prospective client, along with a letter substantially as follows.
"It is highly irregular that a legitimate company not involved in fraudulent enterprises would undertake to engage in a contract or extra-contractual provisions requiring me to violate my own contract with the air carrier and that would jeopardize my entire account balance and also my lifetime earning level with that carrier.

"I trust your organization is not involved in violations of other parties' contracts, and it is only upon that basis that I will undertake to consult for your fine outfit.

I travelled next to someone working for the Australian government and they told me they don't get to keep any air miles. All air miles are pooled into a government account. Employees of the government are not allowed to get any personal benefit as a result of travel as a result of official business.
