Do you know why my web site had a huge increase in usage 1/5?

Last Monday, 1/5/04, my web site below had 2 1/2 times the normal vistors. Since then, I have been averaging about 50% more than usual. Apparently someone mentioned the site in a large circulation something. I'm not complaining, but I would really like to know where I was mentioned.

Thanks.

And your web site is................?

Your website is in the Miles for Banking topic.

The NWA kid Jan 11, 2004 9:25 pm

This may further increase your hits now too.

This all seems a bit mysterious to many of us..... being that we don't know your website.

Perhaps posting of a link would be in order?

pgary Jan 11, 2004 10:05 pm

Oops. I always check the box to add my signature (which has the link to and name of my web site), except this time, of course. It's not the legs that go first...

I try again. I do hope you all have discovered this site and use it regularaly.

I supect this thread gets AWFUL close to the thrust of the "Commercial Messages" section of the FT TOS?

Only if you believe my web site is commercial. Fortunately the moderators know that it isn't. Trust them? Or even check out the web site first before expressing such an opinion? Thanks.

I'd probably have to lean toward ozstamps' view as well, on the "walks like a duck, sounds like a duck" theory. On an aggressively moderated board like fatwallet.com, soliciting the Earthlink referral on your site would be reason enough alone to wipe the thread and possibly generate a warning. It's a more mellow bunch here and I think you get the benefit of the doubt, but I think some of the reason for doubt was things reading a bit like direct-mail copy.

I'll step forward and defend pgary here.

I think he was asking a very legitimate question. Of course, some won't pass up a chance to jump on others.

Ask this question: If he were really posting the question as a veiled attempt to attract more visitors, wouldn't he have given a web link in his original message??? Sheesh!

I have read the site and please do not assume I have not. I did not comment on its usefulness or otherwise. I simply opined it IMHO looked "AWFUL close" to you-know-what.

Content like this makes a point possibly:

"If you have not yet signed up for a United Airlines frequent flyer miles account, each of us can earn 5000 miles if you allow me to refer you and you enroll and fly a paid, qualifying round trip on United or United Express between November 1, 2003 and January 31, 2004. Qualifying flights are paid, published fares in F/P/C/Y/B/M/H/Q booking classes. I need your first and last names and your email address."

If MileageAddict or others hosting very similar (and EXCELLENT IMHO) sites posted the same thread I'd hold the exact same opinion. You may have noticed he does not start such threads? Seeing this is plug the free miles websites day, let me do a plug for him:

As to the Mods - as you posted at 8.44pm Mountain time on a Sunday night who knows if they have ever read it yet? Perhaps they might just have personal lives? Have they advised you they are happy about it?

pgary anwered your question above. He clearly says he forgot to add his link in the first post. Any more tough questions I can assist with? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Ok, maybe the thread shouldn't be locked, just moved to a more appropriate area....

Due to the fact pgary is asking about # of hits to his website rather than showing us "new buzzworthy" mileage related earning opportunity.

Come on! Pgary asked a question--basically, he wanted to know if there had been some sort of mention of his site in a news article or some place else. Pgary contributes a lot to this site and had a question that he posted here in an attempt to get an answer. Surely everyone on here has posted a question or two to get an answer?
A simple yes or no would have satisfied his question, and since he is constantly posting his website in his signature and no one complains about that, I don't know why people are complaining now.

pgary,

I just wanted you to know that I think your web site is great. And that I appreciate the time you spend working on it.
