Let ***uchan Live!
Hallo Ladies, Queen Marvella votes to "Let ***uchan Live!" We need to all Learn to Celebrate diversity, teach tolerance and understanding of the unknow! FYI...***u, is a Chinese Character...Meaning "Happiness", ***u...means clothes in Japanese. ***uoka....is a famous city in Japan |
WOO-HOO! Marvella's back! Where you been, girl?
|
I agree with Marvella. Fu*uchan has been a polite member of this board and should be able to continue. It is an international board after all.
If it was overtly obscene or offensive I might think differently. Failing that, hopefully, he will still live on in another name. After all, if we had Mr. Matsushi*a here, would they ask for his driver's licence too? And what about somebody from the Straits of Juan de Fuca near Vancouver. ***uchan posted 09-30-98 01:39 PM Does anyone know why, after posting a message in the coupon trade forum...offering "for free!" some United coupons I ran across. My message and account was deleted from the Frequent Flyer Bulletin Board? Did I do something wrong? Who ever deleted these should have at least advised me if I had done something wrong...I was just trying to help out my fellow traveler. Appreciate any info or advise anyone can offer..... MilesChick posted 10-01-98 10:17 AM ([email protected]) In response to the numerous comments posted in this area, yes in deed, WebFlyer did remove the post due to the possible unprofessional, misunderstanding of the name used. The person who belongs to the name in question, was emailed and told that his post would be removed. He was also asked to chose another name. Obviously, he did receive our email since he has returned with a more appropriate name. We are a site for serious frequent travelers who want to share our thoughts, opinions, and knowledge with others so we can all earn more miles and points. We do not typically remove posts from our site, as a matter of fact this is only the second time. We will not hesitate in the future to remove names or posts which might be perceived unprofessional in nature. ***uchan posted 10-01-98 11:25 AM Thank you everyone for your input on my situation!! Do I still need to change my name or since I added the chan is my name ok? I don't want to offend anyone else... Also I never received any email from web flyer, advising my posting would be removed or I needed to change my name, if I did I certainly won't have posted this message asking what happened... As Baobab pointed out it is an Asian name. ***u or ***uchan is the name of my dog, This is a common name for a dog in Japan as is my cat's name Kuro or Kurochan..... Regarding my original offer of Ua Coupons.... [remainder of post about coupons] MileMonitor posted 10-01-98 02:26 PM This is Randy Petersen of WebFlyer. Indeed we did take hte post by ***U off from the original post because of the possible confusion with profanity. I have checked our records and indeed, he was emailed prior to the action with an explanation and he did choose another name. As you are aware, other sites have been held accountable for actions, words and language instituted by their visitors and we really want FlyerTalk to continue in the manner it was intended. I think everything is fine now and let's get back to chat. For your reference, FlyerTalk was originally launched in 1994 and was pulled three months later because of the inmaturity of selected visitors and frankly, we didn't have the staff to clean up the language every day. Hopefully this time it's better. [This message has been edited by roberto (edited 04-02-99).] |
Hi Marvella, glad to see you back!
Also, the folks at WebFlyer are the people in control of this board, and if they find a name unsuitable it is their choice how to handle it. Personally, I have ***uchan's feedback very good. So...he changes his name, big deal. Let us not make a lawsuit of it. |
Please take note of the comment offered in "let's all take a few deep breaths" by Randy Petersen this morning. It may clear some misunderstandings up. Thank you.
------------------ |
The way I was brough up, if you screwed up you said "Sorry". You did not stop discussion on the subject.
I have more respect for people who are man enough to use the word sorry that I do for people who are able to 'close' threads. Nick |
In all fairness to Randy, we don't know that he didn't apoligize to ***uchan by email. I don't think a public apoligy by Randy is necessary as he did not make this a public issue...***uchan did (and in a rather spectacular and questionable way, I might add, IMHO). As I've said before, I think ***uchan should have tried to resolve this privatly by email before leaping into the public forum and causing all of us a great deal of aggravation, and as it turns out, just because of a simple misunderstanding that was easily corrected.

Merry, please refer to Webster's Dictionary.
Apology: acknowledgement of an offense and expression of regret. The thread closed because it truly had nothing to do with frequent flyer programs or earning miles and points per se. You are considered a valued participant, as all "Talkers" are and with all due respect please forgive and forget. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you again. ------------------ |
The next person to post in this thread owes us all a bag of mustard pretzels (or goldfish crackers) each. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
Sounds yummy. What is that, an inside "flyer" joke?
------------------ g'day |
The pretzels are on me....
Flygirl: In the most polite terms I can post, I never used the word "apology" I used the word "sorry", which I consider has been sadly lacking. As you will note, I posted on one of the closed threads we should get back to other things. Randy responded, I replied. I am sure you would not like to restirct my right to reply. As an aside, England is the home of English, I can manage the native tongue without your assistance - and we use the Oxford or Collins dictionary, not basterdised American versions! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Nick |
Ouch, ouch! my tender ears! I'm personally offended by the term Ba*****ized. Someone has to do something about Merry! Comment police! Comment Police!
|
NJD - you are needlessly offended...
If our friend Merry had looked the word up in the OED, as he should have, he would have realised that the word he wanted was ".......ise". Basterdise should cause no offense at all. |
NJD: Please note ".......ised" is English, it has no "Z" in it. .......ized, is the .......ised American version. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Oh what jollity, I haven't enjoyed myself as much since OneFreeMan said I was only "one of the mose caustic" on this board, has the mantle returned to me yet? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif As for you Bab's, all I can say is Dutch Elm Disease. Nick [This message has been edited by Merry (edited 04-05-99).] |
arturo wan to kno wher marvelous bee? arturo use oxferd shues, an they knot besterdised. arturo kno merie hav onionpin bout meny thengs, so arturo knot komint on meries' prijaundise.
|
Merry we have something in common as my family as well is from England. I however was born in the US, and when in Rome....
I'm glad were back on track with miles and points and I certainly would never want you to not reply. Thanks again for being a "loyal subject"! Cheers! ------------------ |
NJDavid, don't worry about the word Ba*****ized. It is not offensive, it's just that living in Jeerze, you probably never hear offensive words that exceed four letters in length. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
|
Nick, you spelt it "bastErdise" - it sounds as though the subject is in danger of being mistaken for a turkey or roast beef (depending on which continent one addresses).
I am neither Dutch, nor an Elm, so I shall shrug your comment off. flygirl - Merry is a very loyal subject of Elizabeth II, and is firmly ensconced in Merry Olde England (or Cool Brittania, as the case may be, though I think he's a bit too stodgy for that). I must agree that the OED is the definitive authority on English - mine crossed the ocean with me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited now that Merry has shown that he can spell the truly important things] [This message has been edited by baobab (edited 04-05-99).] |
I think that there is less fighting in Kosovo.
And while this site might have a US base, the Internet (not invented by Al Gore) is global as is our membership. Marvella, great to see you back. I am awaiting a trip report!! |
O E D? I thought us Texans chased those "bloody" redcoats so we wouldn't have to put up with "that" kind of English, more commonly known as TEXAN!!
|
All this is fun, but what does it have to do with flying, which is the purpose of this forum?
|
Merry...American dictionaries are just new, revised, and corrected versions of those dusty old things sitting around your houses of "higher" education. Need I point out that if we Yanks hadn't saved your British butts, arse, bum, or whatever you people call them...during the big WW Two, you'd probably be searching through your German to English Translation Book right now. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif I haven't had this much fun since my last root canal. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
PremEx, Bravo! On a very intelligent and insightful comment earlier today regarding RP. Thank you.
Again I say, "When in Rome...." and remember FlyerTalk is based in the good old USA. ------------------ [This message has been edited by flygirl (edited 04-05-99).] |
Well, before Merry or Babs suggest it...I am NOT flygirl.
|
If you buy the OED using an affinty card you'll earn FF miles for it!
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif OMNI to Merry: PremEx attempting to take most caustic crown!! |
[edited as it touches on PremEx's pre-life as Melissa]
And DON'T get Merry started on the Germans. He's quite fond of them, and thinks he can speak the language too. [This message has been edited by baobab (edited 04-06-99).] |
philforest, you just may be the smartest one of all of us.
------------------ |
Flygirl: Many thanks, I had always thought of this as an international forum, but if you are 'officially' saying it is US that is fine. I will be happy to point out to every recipient of a Freddie (what nationality is he?) that it is an American award.
Bab's: It's Elizabeth (with a Z)! (by the grace of God). Premex: Thank you. Better late than never, but thank you all the same. Nick |
NJDavid...looks like you may want buy some stock in the Mustard Pretzel Company.
|
Without straying too far...
"For my part this forum is no longer what it was. Every time I post now I consider how the post will sit with our hosts." - Merry from a closed thread. I could not have expressed that any better! |
heehee... I was testing....
Glad to see that you haven't nodded off yet Merry. |
Merry...I'm Sorry! Sorry, I said. Sorry. Apologize. Beg forgivness. (OneFreeMan...just trying to nip the caustic crown thing in the bud).
|
AuH2o...why should Merry be concerned about how our hosts react to his postings? He's never been concerned about how we might react to them! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

You KNOW we're all in trouble when I come in like the voice of reason, BUT,
Merry, yes you are the biggest jerk and the most arrogant, caustic snob on the board (there, that should keep him happy for weeks). Premex: I hope you were prettier before the operation. Flygirl: There is only one superpower, culturally, militarily AND economically speaking, left in the world. Those of us who live here are confident enough to know it, and NEVER apologize for it. But if you want to be MY queen, you'll have to take that up with Marvella, the incumbent at that position... Baobab: I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as our... Arty: Care to step outside? Point being: I'm glad to see the tensions melting into good-hearted, old fashioned Flyertalker bashing! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif PS, flygirl, I understand there will be a seminar on freedom of expression and the internet at the PiP. Can we count on any InsideFlyer employees as moderators? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Wow. Arturo. That's quite the, well, er, endorsement? But well said 'ol chap. I think?
|
Baobab...logging a IM is tantamount to recording a phone conversation. I hope you don't intend on being the Linda Tripp of FlyerTalk? You're much to pretty for that. And Matt, the answer to your question is 'yes.' Something went horrifically wrong. I agree with Babs that yours turned out much better.
