daydreaming about miles?

Must say first I’m completely new to this world. I was just trying to see if I’m the only one that is having “interesting” experiences with a flyertalk frequent user and a somehow AA miles obsessed (in this case my boyfriend). I have to admit I’m enjoying plenty of his perks but sometimes I believe his brain just works with miles…so…the question is, is it normal that in a nice evening at his home when I turn all mellow, sweet and romantic his sudden reply after 5 minutes in silence is to point out that after my next flight to Hong Kong I will become AA Platinum?

p.s: finally platinum after completing the challenge!

Yes, this is a normal part of the miles/points sickness. Here is the hierarchy to put things in perspective.

  • Alcohol / Drug addiction
  • Gambling addiction
  • Points / Miles addiction
  • Dessert Addiction

CMbcn, welcome to FlyerTalk. Actually the best forum for this discussion will be our MilesBuzz forum, so one last move there. Thanks, Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

Use it to your advantage. The next time you're feeling romantic, just whisper to him something about how big his points account is. Works every time.

Is that your plat welcome package, or are you just happy to see me? :)

Welcome to FT CMbcn! I think most of us here think about miles quite often! Hope you get to liking them too!
And that's a funny reply safigan!

There's nothing wrong with dating a guy just for his status, as long as you stick with him through all tiers.

And soon, after you become AA Plat, and get the experience of several flights in front of the curtain, you, too, will have unplanned moments of silence as you dream of ways to secure that upgrade instead of listening to every single syllable of every single word your BF utters! :D

Not only is that the case of a secure relationship.....it's the reality of being a mileage junkie! :D

Here's the sad story of a gf who just didn't get it.

gre Jan 15, 2009 8:41 am

I collect miles (and status) which I share with Mrs. gre who benefits by getting upgrades, free tickets, etc.

Mrs. gre collects hummels (me shuddering). My benefit is getting to look at the hideous little things.

Who's the winner here?

CMbcn, you know all about guys and their ulterior motives, right? Are you sure your pending platinum status isn't what he's really after?

;)

Be thankful you have someone to talk miles with! I'm pretty new to the ffmiles thing, and this forum as well (my 2nd post!). I'm trying to catch on to the great opportunities that are out there and have no one to bounce ideas or opportunities off of. Hense I tend to 'lurk' the posts to learn as much as I can.
Does anyone have suggestions on traveling alone?
