why is BA/jag buring us? !Should we burn them back?
This story found by Scott C in another forum. Seems they never anticipated that so many people would take them up on their offer...
http://www.tarom.net/ba/oldbajoke.html http://www.flyertalk.com/milesfr.shtml Seems as though they are wanting the majority of us to ACCEPT this crock?? NOT! Free miles or no, a deal's a deal, a long wait is a tease, and a promise is a promise! Where are the facts and figures? Why does BA/Jag do this to people who WOULD have used the airline?!! I havent been around for a while in here, but if you know me, you KNOW I'll fight them til we see our miles! i did it with bank of America and got back missing miles (for those who did not get in on that one, email me or go to the other forum and check posts from a few weeks back on the subject...) |
or, one can laugh at one's self once and a while...
BA never heard of any such problem, they just told me. The points will come but it is taking time. |
Careful - the page looks to be a mock-up, and not the legitimate story. If you click on page two, it takes you to a Car and Driver article, which then when you return to page one, has absolutely nothing to do with BA and Jaguar. I'm not alarmed yet.
|
ScottC (that Very Bad Man, as Churchill used to refer to Hitler)( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) made up that article. It was a good job - almost too good. One had to look very closely to find out the "fake" disclaimer. Caught a lot of people, myself included.
I have it on good authority that all his children will be toads. |
I think this 'news flash' is a couple of weeks old news now folks. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
If you read to the end of page one you will read:
"This entire article is a fake and is not written or endorsed by BA or Jaguar." |
The funniest thing about it (in my view) is that BA/Jaguar is just asking for these types of hoaxes by not delivering the miles in the timeframe they promised.
Maybe the next time they do one of these promotions, there will be a meeting at which someone at BA and/or Jaguar will ask: "OK, so it's agreed that we will wait as long as possible and even a bit past the promised 6-8 weeks. Any downside to this strategy?" Someone raises hand. "Yes, I think the downside to delaying everyone's miles past the promised date is that it would lead to a fertile ground for rumours and hoaxes... "And a fair number of people will believe these rumours and hoaxes, which doesn't do a whole lot for customer goodwill towards either BA or Jaguary... Plus, it will lead to plenty of otherwise unnecessary calls to our customer service reps asking about these rumors and hoaxes that miles will not be forthcoming." |
You people need to be patient! The points will post soon enough.

Time span to do a promo like this:
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"> Scenario 1: Person makes test drive Person fills in form and sends it BA/Jag's promtion agency open the enveloppe, check the validity of it and enter it into a computer The computer runs a script that sends the EC number to BA HQ every night and the miles get posted. Member happy. </font> <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"> Scenario 2, BA's quite probable real life case Person (does or does not...) make a test drive Person fills in form and sends it in Enveloppe is stashed with the 100's of others in a big box on someones desk 2 weeks later second box is added 3 weeks later thrird box is added 8 weeks later at the end of the promo people wonder why there are so many boxes BA promo staff come together to figure out who is going to open all those **** enveloppes Enveloppes get opened and EC number is written on a list 4 weeks later they are done and the list is faxed to the uk People start complining that their miles are still not posted, turns out fax wasn't readable Fax sent again, staff member in UK on vacation Staff member returns, passes long fax to IT man to enter into PC Database conversion of EC numbers fails, have to re-enter all numbers again Numbers all entered, awaiting approval to give away 100 million miles to test drivers Meeting about miles cancelled Meeting rescheduled Meeting approves miles IT staff responsable for miles database postings is on vacation IT staff member returns and finally adds the miles to a batch script that will run next week, or so... Miles post </font> |
I'd imagine miles will post on 3ist June - wait that's 1 July when BA miles have undergone massive devaluation!. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Hey, Hound! "Qualifying" is certainly a weasle-like word to hear. Regardless, it is nice to know that BA is getting some well deserved heat resulting from this promo.

Depends on what your definition of qualifying means............ Just as long as the weasels don't bite us in the end where it hurts in our mileage accounts :( I may cancel my entire fleet of Jaguars on order :) |

YUP! ALL 5 Fam members!!!!!!!
I take it ALLLLL back! Zee plan worked! I had set up accounts for fam and everyone had originally planned on doing 4 Jaguar things, I recall. But then I happened to notic in the depths of all things BA that the airline was now letting up to 7 people in household combine their miles. This was discovered by some in mid/late March and became effective around that time. We had only done 4 Jaguar things and so that would yeild 40k... But with the pending changes at BA, one of which would mean that a flight for USA-Europe or vs. would require 50k, and not just 40 anymore, so we needed 10,000 more points. Where to get em, we thought? Did they successfully rope us all in to now need and have to work for 10k more points? Yes they did--BUT I was able to get my other brother to do the Jag test drive just at the last minute and send his thing in on time (the send-in date was a little while after the last date you could get the cert signed--Mid Mar and Mar 31, I recall) and he now stood to become our much needed 5th wheel! And today all five of our family's accounts got the 10k! All legal, all test drove the cahhh, and all got the miles and only a few weeks late! I had thought JUNE, then doubted it when I got duped on that funny fake web site gag, and now, we have seen justice! We will now combine the miles to get 50k. Am trying to figure out how to call BA and also how to do this combine thing, and how long this takes. My question, when you look at your BA statement (see below): What's the dif between Mileage and Exec Club pts? Is Exec club the name of the BA program or are those just the elite status points I never expected to get here? Mr *ME* welcome to your Blue membership online. My Mileage Balance 10,000 Executive Club Points 0 Anyway, my use of these 50k combined BA miles is going to be as follows if I can do it: We have two dutch realtives who want to come over here in late july and though everyone and his grandmother is going to try to redeem BA miles now, their flights would be going THE OTHER WAY: AMS-LHR-BOS and back. They MAY get lucky and be able to have me give them one award and then they pay for the other. I can legally give my BA award to a relative and the goal here was to do the promo to get a free Europe trip and save money. It seems to be working so far. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gifMM I am a very happy MMan today! |
oops! need more pts.
am finding out that we will need 60k after all. oh well. have to find 10k more and fast. Was just told by BA reservations desk (I was transferred once I got thru the many prompts needed to talk to an Exec club person) that if you book BEFORE july 1, a USA Europe ticket is 60k pp. I had thought it had once been 40 and now was only 50. Oops! WRONG! AND, after July 1, it goes up even still! WHo knows how many will be needed. Now if that's not a buzz kill... (but we are still happy to have the 50k and maybe these can be used elsewhere. Have to learn more about BA starting now.) MM BA exec club: 800-452-1201 (if in USA) 718-335-7070 (if not) |
after 7/1, rates go up but Miles+$ will exist...
I am learning that this MAY be hard to do... AND, I dunno where to get this household acct form! It is NOT on the site (I certainly cannot find it!) Here's more stuff I figured out though... I do not yet know WHAT the exact new mileage rates will be once July 1 comes around, and neither did BA. But I was told they will start to allow some miles+money offers when it does happen. Some of these are avial on the BA site under the redemptions section, and I THINK I found out how some of these might work for me. It is this: The chart they have seems to say that flying to what they call Europe 1 from North America will cost me 35,000 + £115 ($175). To go to what they call Europe 2, it's 35,000 + £130 ($195) but mine seems to be Europe 1, I think. I have not found out enough info on all of this yet, and I hope they one day let us use different amounts of miles and money. With the dollar sinking and the found still up, I am thinking this could still cost, but the current prices for tix booked for USA/Europe right now may still make it worth it all. Unless I can find 10k more BA miles, I'll obviously need to wait til after July 1 to book this. This is pushing it, because my Dutch travelers wanna come at end of July and stay til mid Aug. So then it may take more effort and money than planned, but also be more possible to do in the first place, which is a good thing over all--if they still have award seats avail. I did ask if it was legal for ME to book an award for someone else and they said YES. There is an automatic calculator on the BA site (also found in redemptions section) which lets you type in the places and currency (USD). The results I got were this: +++++++++++++++++++++ Take a redemption flight sooner: If you have not collected enough BA Miles for a free* flight you will be able to combine BA Miles and cash to pay for an economy redemption ticket (UK Domestic, Euro Traveller and World Traveller cabins only). Click here for the Part cash Part Miles table. (this brings you to the partial table I speak of, or you can do it another way... ) Use the calculator below to find the cash and BA Miles amounts needed for your journey. Part cash Part Miles bookings can be made online or via your Executive Club Service Centre from 1 July 2003. Booking lead times will apply. One-way bookings are possible and will cost half the amount of cash and BA Miles of a return booking. Part cash Part Miles bookings will be available on British Airways subsidiaries and franchises. Use this calculator to find out the number of BA Miles and cash value you will need from 1st July to redeem for a flight with British Airways: Leaving from: Netherlands Going to: United States Currency:† US Dollars RESULTS: For your desired journey you will need: 35,000 BA Miles and $175 cash. † Currency of payment is dependent on residency of member. Example currencies are used here. * Subject to applicable taxes, fees, charges and surcharges. +++++++++++++++++++++ Hmmm... so much to do, and that's what addictive marketing is all about. I AM a confessed consumer! They win, and I'll have 15k left over for some other day or somethin'. ah well... MM |
Got my miles I may pass out !
I considered this a long shot...... Like winning the lottery ! Came in today posted as special promotion ............ At first I thought it was a mistake ! Jaguar and BA rock :):):) |
yahooo!!!! mine too!! many thanks to all your guys who made this possible for me!
|
this IS great and we stand to have 50k once all is said and done (as I said above, have 5 people in household--family who did Jag promo and got the 10k each!)
BUT the joining of accts is something entirely different: 1) you can do up to 4 people in the HH acct right now and I found the form on the site in the redemption section. It is said to take a few weeks to get processed. 2) it turns out that AS OF JULY 1, and not before, you can do up to 7 (the welcome letter we all got in the regular mail says stuff about this in the fine print at its end). you can add in people later but all non household people must be over 18. if you have 3 kids, and 5 people, add your wife last. you CANNOT give awards to someone not in the household gig. YOu can give them to others in any other miles scene, but not in this one. Looks like we will be using this for ourselves and maybe on the partners like American for other stuff... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gifMM |
But if I create the family account now with 4, can I add 3 more on July 1? The rules say I have to wait 6 months between changes, but the CSR says I can add 3 in this case. Is there anything in writing on this?
|
A. Not sure if you had to have the family account set up before you send in the certs. Maybe you're OK.
B. IIRC, after July 1 you will not be able to join EC unless you take a full fare BA flight!! So ... get in now and get grandfathered in. |
Wait a minute - that's dumb! If you weren't already a member, you wouldn't have the miles! Hmmm. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Well, OK - let that be a warning to others planning to join up. |
from what I got when talking to BA CS today, you can do 4 people now and then as soon as July 1 comes along, you can do the others, up to 7 total.
When you send in the form now, it takes like 2 weeks to process. SO you have 40k. Then when July 1 comes, you send in the others (in this case, we had 5 so my wife will be the 5th) and they will add her in. In fact they said to me that in case we had some flight pending using miles, they may even be able to expedite this! I did find out you can only use the mileage awards for household accounts FOR those people--you cannot give the award to someone who is not in the household acct. I will be faxing my form in this week and then, according to everything above, will have the 5th person and a total of 50k by mid july. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gifMM |
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">In fact they said to me that in case we had some flight pending using miles, they may even be able to expedite this!</font> 1 p.m. today:I call BA and make a reservation to ANC. Not enough miles but but my family account (which will provide the necessary amount) is marked "pending." So they transfer me to Member Services, so I can ask if they can expedite my household account application. They agree, and say they should be able to do it in 24 hours. 5 p.m. today:I check my British Airways account, and my household account is all set up! Julia has kindly copied the official rules for us. Clearly, resorts are not required to even give RC access to Diamonds.
In the past, I would usually get RC access, even at resorts. In the past year or so, I have been denied this perquisite more often than I have been granted it. I believe thst Diamonds used to be given an RC upgrade or access until the program changed about 2 years ago. Julia, it is clear that Diamonds do not get club access at resorts, but what type of room upgrade should we expect if the club is not available? |
