BA award on LAN. BA considers IPC as part of south america . ( from SCL it is a 5 hr. flt. into the South Pacific ) . This award is good all year long .( not seasonal ). Easter Island is an amazing place.( one of those " ONCE IN A LIFETIME ", must visit.) Michael |
Just did RNO to GIG Delta First and Business class 90K each. When I priced the tickets out they came to $8,500 if we paid for them. It was great trip.

The last time I checked (about 9 months ago ), you can use AA miles to fly : N.America - South South America ( EZE ,SCL , MVD etc. ) NOT IPC. for 40K off season and 60K in season in Y class. For the SCL -IPC , you need a separate award .( I don't know how many miles are needed ) The beauty of using BA miles is that they consider IPC to be located in S. America . Michael |
I still like using AA miles for intra-Europe. Nice bang-for-buck. Also like doing awards to various high-cost points in Mexico, Caribbean, and Central America. 30k to 35k for seats that always run $800+ out of MCI. Belize, for example.
In general, I'm willing to live with coach as long as I have a low-status on that airline and take more free trips. If I hold no status on the airline, I either hoard enough miles to go transatlantic J (or *maybe* domestic F, if I have an optimal trip for that airline), or I look to convert the miles out to hotel points. |
This is definitely an interesting thread. :)
I saw that someone earlier mentioned the NW 5K Hawaiian intra-island award. NW for a short while actually had one that I thought was even better. They had a 15K point unlimited 8-day intra-island Hawaiian award. My wife and I were able to use 30K together and see virtually all the islands while we were there and some of them more than once :D . (Of course this about 6 or 7 years ago and yes we definitely spent too much time in airports for that trip, but it was a memorable vacation none the less.) Chip |
AA 40K off peak NA to Europe (with stopover)
I like the off peak AA award from NA to EUR for only 40K miles. Recently booked a JFK - BRU - TFS - TFN - BRU (s/o) - JFK. Pretty good to go from NY to spend a week in the Canary Islands and a week in Brussels all for only 40K miles.

MrMan, are these awards still available and can I get any details on these by calling NW service dept?

I would say #2 is WN's Companion Pass where your companion fly's free even on an award ticket after 100 segments. |

Second, I think the award that he mentioned referred to the fact that for a quite a while, WN was giving double credits for flights. Which translated into a free ticket for every 4 round-trips. And I don't think they have that promotion any longer. Added to that, I do believe that WN has also just changed their awards such that they are now capacity controlled, but with no blackout dates. Where there used to be blackout dates, but no capacity controls. And AFAIK, the free companion ticket for a year to anyone who flys 100 segments in a year is still available. |
Yulmichael, question for ya:
Great tip on the 40k BA miles from the US - IPC (Easter Island)!!
I signed up for a BA card loong ago when living in Europe, but don't have any miles with them. I wonder if the card's still good. Do you know any quick ways to snag some BA miles to use this 40k deal? (We're moving to SCL next year, 2007.) Thanks! |
