Actually, this does work with certain airlines. None of them are US carriers though.

Read page one... I think it was intended to be funny.

LOL

I believe that I've read some of these tips on FT before http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

ROTFL http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I guess now we have a new version of THE SPEECH

Considering the pressure you're under at this terminal, the quality of service is just remarkable. I know the company's got problems in other places--I hear about them every weekend from [first name of airline's president]. But he'll be glad when I tell him the story around here.

I wonder if anyone has ever received an upgrade in reality by ever "tipping" a gate agent or FA:

3) Slip a crisp bill into your ticket folder. Figure on $50 domestic, $100 international.

Never tried it myself -- would have thought it might be a tad illegal for some reason...

Perhaps the author of this frequents FT:

...They also know it looks bad if they leave paying customers in coach while giving away empty seats up front to off-duty airline employees along for a free ride. This form of professional courtesy is so common on some airlines that the first-class cabin is referred to as "the employee lounge." Make them share it with you.
When you're done reading "How to fly first class" click on the "previous" button to read the first page (not air travel related). It, too, was hilarious!

Drat! I wish I'd read the advice following the "upgrade" story before last night!

HAH! This is a good one that I am all too often guilty of:

8) Defend your turf! If anyone from business class tries to use the lavatory, make a scene.

Hey, kishna! It is an interesting question that you posed given some carriers [HP, AS] allow upgrades to be purchased for fifty bucks.

Sure - paid to the airline as revenue and not as a bribe to the staff

flymetothemoon Nov 2, 2002 3:22 pm

I'm glad the article didn't reveal the secret upgrade handshake between a VFF and gate agent! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The crisp $50 or $100 absolutely works with some FA's on Aeroflot just before takeoff or once airborne.

I meant specifically as a bribe/tip - not for any paid upgrade.

Af personnel are known to take $50 bribes such as these in many stations.
