Are you afraid to admit miles addiction elsewhere?
 

In this community of flyertalk.com, we can talk about miles and travel. Others are not so sympathetic, I think.

I recently travelled to another major US airport, leaving only about 5 left untravelled. In a way, I'm afraid to admit it to others (particularly the wife and kids, who suffer because of too much travel).

Don't you agree?

(BDL, TPA, PBI, BOI, and SYR are the only US airports with commercial air service that I consider "big" or "medium sized" that I haven't flown to. However, everyone's opinion differ.)

my addiction is even more a (top-tier- and the perks that come with it, than a simple miles-adding-) addiction.

No shame - every one of our Wengen guests (about 50/year) reads with amusement (sometimes astonishments) the trip reports of my visiting Frequent Flier friends (they are all in our guest-book) - and the whole Martel-clan (wife, children, children's boyfriends, brothers and their wives, my father, my mother-in-law) profit from free tickes and upgrades ... and my local LH-angel just loves my addiction too - even when she did plan together with me and issue multiple segments rtw-tickets ...

My ex-travel agent friend of mine is sick of hearing me talk about FF programs. However, my wife is beginning to warm up to the ideas of doing mileage run/vacation combinations http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

My wife and coworkers think i'm a sick puppy. However my wife did enjoy going to the Napa Valley for her birthday last weekend in F both ways.

much shame... but then again when I tell folks that I flew up-front, or got upgraded at a hotel, they think I am some sort of god 'cause it almost never happens to them. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The problem with flying my family in F and Business class is that they get used to. My 10 year old son has been flying Delta's BusinessElite transcon and to Europe for the past two years, and is now complaining that coach is too cramped, and he is only 4'6" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I guess in a way, it is an incentive for him to do well in school so that he can travel with his future family in comfort.

I've given up. My wife is very appreciative of my "hobby", but co-workers, friends, and family seem supremely indifferent to the entire concept.

After a two hour car ride with a buddy, he told me (with a smile) he felt like he was being sold Amway. And he got a big kick out of the treatment we got at the hotel when they saw my HHonors status. He found the whole thing quite amusing.

My family members are always asking me for advice and to book trips for them.

And my wife provides a good balance. She thinks it is great to get all the free travel, but she also helps me be willing to spend points and miles on trips that I might want to pay cash on otherwise. She points out that the rewards are no good if never used, and she's right.

She understands that some trips aren't worth using points or miles for (think how cheap things are in Vegas for example), but she has helped me lower the bar. Yes, I could save it all up for a week in Hawaii, but our schedule won't accomodate that for a year or two, so she convinces me to use the rewards for family trips, and I'm glad she has.

My relatives and girlfriend think I'm nuts/weird when I do mileage runs, which I began to do this year. However once they see the benefits of free travel/hotel stays and upgrades, they don't critizice me anymore.

But with my friends, I'm just traveling ! Why bother telling my friends about something they might not understand..

I may be the exception. I have no miles addiction. I would freely sacrifice miles just to be home more often...
