Greyhound Mileage Program?

I was amused to see an Amtrack rewards topic here. Is there also a Greyhound rewards program?

Hey guys, remember Greyhound Air of Canada?? See http://www.geocities.com/debras7767/GHA.html

They had bus connections to different airports: one could travel bus-to-plane-to-bus. I believe they offered through ticketing, and schedules were timed so buses would meet flights.

IMHO, I think it would be a great change of business model for Greyhound of the US to focus even more on providing service and high frequencies for connections to airports-- say service within about 100-150 miles of low fare airports.... far enough to not want to drive, but close enough that an $8 each way bus ride coupled with a lower fare would make it worth the passenger's while. PHL-- to BWI or NYC to ISP come to mind.

--- Bonanza Bus Lines currently offers hourly service from Boston to PVD.

--- Greyhound already partners with AirTran for FlightLink service to ATL airport from Macon, GA and Chattanooga through about 1998. See http://www.2600.com/hackedphiles/val...ywefly_06.html

Don't forget about the "bus" flights from O'Hare to Rockford IL, or DEN to Breckenridge. While not Greyhound per se, it's scheduled bus service nonetheless. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Re. earning/redeeming miles for Greyhound awards, Greyhound of Canadad has discount options for people who redeem Air Miles. See http://www.greyhound.ca/faq/air_miles.html

150 miles are good for 40% off of a one way or round trip ticket, or a discount on an unlimited use pass.

Actually the Amtrak Guest Rewards program is not asuming, it is quite useful to wash miles to UA etc.

As far as Greyhound is concerned, come on guys dont't be such snobs! But I agree with all such sentiments! But do you have laugh so
loud!

No. Greyhound does not have a frequent traveler program in place at this time. </font>

Now, now, guys.....

I once had a job delivering Motorhomes and trucks to dealers from the factories in Indiana and guess how you had to get back? Either tow a car behind you or take the bus. In reality a 60 day pass for 8 bucks a day is the most reasonable cost per mile and if it is an express bus you can sleep on it saving the hotel cost and of course freeing up valuable DOT driving crew rest hours. Of course I don't think a rewards program would honor miles from a pass, but if there were an option of LA to Chicago, or NYC to Chicago air tickets on very short notice for less than $100 the I would ot have had to ride the dog...
Just a thought...

Hmmm...my own car would get there! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

How a bout an alliance with other loyalty programs. Then you could earn flight rewards by riding the bus and vice-versa: 500K DogMiles get you a free flight anywhere in the lower 48 and Canada. (what is that, like, 100 coast-to-coast RTs?) On the other hand, a flight from CVG to IAD will get net you enough miles for your return bus ride home! If you qualify for elite-level bonuses, you could even bring the in-laws back with you!

I used Greyhound (and their codeshare partner Peter Pan) in March to get to the Philly DO from NYC and was pleasantly surprised by the journey. It was a darn sight quicker and more convenient than schlepping myself over to an airport for a flight and the ticket cost me the grand total of $38 RT. Yes, my seatmate was a smelly Mexican laborer who spoke no English and hadn't showered in a week, but can you honestly say that you don't get folks like that aboard planes?

yorock Oct 22, 2002 2:36 pm

I should also add that the shuttle service from DC to NYC is pretty convenient. Cheap, on time, and plenty of departures.

They should be convertible to Southwest flights. I mean...what's the difference?

I don't think they sing on the dog...

Sassy! Oct 22, 2002 4:17 pm

Please let's not be posting comments about "Smelly Mexicans" or comments about folks who have not been as sucessful in the "Lottery of Life," as most of us on this board.

We should encourage Grayhound and other bus companies to code share and create the intagrated air/bus/train services that are available in other countries.

Getting rail service to some airports may be difficult and costly but we could get Air/Bus connections going real fast. In away we already have them with some of the short hall "flights" on airline vans.

Sassy!

UALOneKPlus Oct 22, 2002 4:30 pm

Sassy brings up a good point. I wish the rail service in the US was as efficient and profitable as that in Europe http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

BackOfTheBus Oct 22, 2002 4:40 pm

While I love trains (and even good old Amtrak!), there is hardly a country in the world where the train system makes money.

Example: Paris-Marseille high-speed rail line cost: $10 billion!
How do you think will they recoup the cost with so many leisure travellers and people with Eurail passes?

Maybe we in the US need to subsidize rail a little more (not as much as the French, of course). How about we tax the airlines and use the money on rail http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif?

Sassy!,

Perhaps B747-437B was simply describing the scene before him and not making gross generalizations about the Mexican population at large! I dare say I've sat next to a "Smelly American" in a business suit a time or two myself...

If memory serves, Greyhound Air did indeed have a program that could be used for reward travel on its air or bus line. It could also be used for shipping cargo. I also seem to recall that you needed only 5 or so roundtrips to get a roundtrip reward ticket. A sample walk up one way fare from YOW to YWG (2 1/2 hr flight) was about C$180 all taxes in.

They also used 727 aircraft with noise reduction engine refits.
