What to do with extra miles?

I have 30k miles on delta and nw. I have a rt ticket to Europe on usair that will give me around 12k. I never fly usair, any suggestions on how to use the miles on usair. Is there a way to transfer miles to delta or nw? thanks , ts

Welcome! But, how could you possibly ever have extra miles???

I'm not sure this is a concept that we understand here.

I would go to the US Airways thread & enroll in all the bonuses. You may get double miles, etc. With double miles, you may have nearly enough for a free domestic tix. Worth a try. I flew US in 1997 (LAX-CMH), got about 7K w/signup bonus at that time. Last year, a $438 LAX-FRA fare for Sat/Sun outbound/return. (more $$ for those days!). Superb price for mid June travel. Could not pass that up! What was sweeter was that the CLT-FRA leg was oversold & they offered $400 cash/$600 voucher. I took the voucher & flew 2 more domestic RT's. Made Silver on return of 2nd. RT. Just took trip from LAX-RDU (LA to Raleigh, NC). Now have 62K in account. Not bad for spending $750 total!

I have been pleasantly surprised with USAir and suggest you consider their FF program. They are the only major airline I know of that gives you 2 System Wide Upgrades for qualifying even at the Silver level- 25000 miles.

If you want to use or transfer your miles, here are 2 suggestions.....

1. If you have the miles now, use a 15000 USAir shuttle award between DCA-LGA, LGA-BOS or DCA-BOS.

2. If you have a Hilton HHonors membership, laundry your miles throw them. The equation would be:
12000 US miles = 24000 HHonors Points = 6000 DL miles

Numbers above are just estimates. Like a tshirt in hot water, it will shrink but at least you won't lose the orphan miles either. Many happy travelers have passed through the Hilton Orphanage.

Please listen to the suggestion about the bonus thread. I have flown "2" times in the last 2 months, GSO-PHL and GSO-FLL, and because of all the bonuses I have gotten, those 2 flights have netted me 17,000 miles.
I am taking my first "mileage run" this weekend to NYC, just to finish up the Silver Challenge with USAir. They have some great promotions going on, you might be able to qualify for the silver challenge with this one trip if you sign up, and may indeed end up with enough miles for a free ticket.

I am glad that SLC, where I live, doesn't have USAir, so I have no wories about what to do with USAir miles -- I never had any.

BTW, USAir miles cannot be exchanged for Hilton points, contrary to what some of the above posts state.

Wish that were true, but it ain't... Unfortunately, USAir does not participate in the HHonors Rewards Exchange.

Does US participate in any "mileage donation" programs, like Make-A-Wish? You might be able to take a write off...

I was going to suggest the same thing, most airlines will allow you to donate the miles back to them for charity, and some charities are taking them directly. Worst comes to worst, you just hold onto them and hope they get taken over someday or combine FF programs by another airline you have miles with.

Sign up to receive your USAirways statements by e-mail to earn 500 bonus miles AND be eligible to use 15,000 miles for a free ticket to the City of the Month!
This month's cities are Chicago & Dallas.
Also, be sure you ask each hotel or car rental co. which airlines they give miles on.
