This was mentioned in earlier posts, but in case someone isn't reading all the way back carefully: AA credit card/etc. miles DO NOT count toward earning annual status in the usual way (25,000 miles/year for first tier, etc.). They ONLY count toward the lifetime totals that give lifetime Gold after 1 million miles, Platinum for 2.

these are partners???

Have any other carriers "matched" this promotion????

The eligable partners are listed in the link to the promotion. The US Air Mall does count.

Good deal if you go for massages regularly.

Earning 100,000 points would earn you 4 free domestic flights, many upgrades and a few free flights next year. With 100% bonus match, if you fly 50,000 miles you'll get 50,000 more free miles. (2 more free domestics)

The value of 6 free flights is probably between $1,500 - $2,000.

Not to mention, you can get upgrades for a companion and can nominate one person to Silver Status.

Where is this "Spa Certificates" worth 20 points per/$?

that link should work.

Apparently the Spa Certificates are accepted all over the country and do not expire (per FTD CS agent).

That actually makes for an intruiging way to BUY CP and get 100,000 miles. These would make great gifts over the next couple years. I may be rethinking my switch to Delta for 2007.

I agree. With no expiration date, these are fantastic birthday/holiday/corporate gifts.

Sound like an easy way to get some miles. Thanks

Best case: you use some or most of your points on hotel stays. It's relatively easy, even for a modest midscale guest at Sheratons and the like, to justify Starpoints as 3 cents apiece in real cash return. If you are already spending a lot of money on higher-end hotels, the returns can be even higher.

Worst case: you can't find enough need for hotel stays, and you convert them to air miles at at least the same rate ($1 - 1 mile) as you'd get with the airlines' own cards. And although I wouldn't advise burning large chunks of Starpoints on miles, if you have to do it in 20k increments, you get 1.25 miles/$.

You have many airlines to choose from. The only major "catch" that might affect some is that UA is not on the list of 1:1 carriers. (I think UA is 2 SPG to 1 mile, an absolutely horrific conversion rate.) But...as long as you aren't married to UA, that's not a showstopper. Sounds like you're talking AA. They are on the list of 1:1 carriers.

Rather than convert SPG points 1:1 for airline miles, in a trade those points may bring more than 1:1 miles.

Doesn't UA sell status or at least the benefits that come with status, like access to E+ seating?

No one has mentioned the possibility of being "gifted" with 3P or 2P MileagePlus status on UA. And sometimes the "gifting" amounts to "buying" (actually "bartering") that status.

And if one maxes the benefits of the UA Platinum Visa card so as to get all of the 15K of EQM, there is the opportunity to buy more EQM for "Choices," though doing it that way makes them very expensive.

I just found out that if you charge 30K per year on SPG Amex you will be upgraded to SPG Gold Status.

Spa certificates points have been posted

I just had 100,000 points posted to my USAirways account. I am now Chairman status, highest level offered, without flying a single flight.

I bought $5,000 worth of certificates and earned 20 Points per dollar. This works out well for me, because I can use these in my business.

Pretty incredible promotion!!

I thought it would be a great idea to order a few certs to get me to the next elite level on US Airways and get enough miles for a free ticket. :D

Unfortunately, I couldn't just say order 10 certs and send it to my address as it wanted me to enter in recipient information for each :( . So I manually  added 10 certs in. Then, I went to check out and then found out that FTD.COM wanted to charge me 10.99 delivery for each item.

How did you get around this stupid interface??? ... and did you have to pay 10.99 for each cert you bought?

.

no you need to fly the full 50,000 miles.

trust me I know, I am a lifetime gold.

IMO, it's a disincententive to fly AA. I want to maintain my bottom level tier on Sky Team. AA I can take for granted.

What are you looking to do, what is more important to you?
1-"lifetime" vested status?
2-Immediate status on AA hopefully renewable each year
3- Are you very partial to AA? howabout CO,DL, US would these work? 4- what is your home airport? typical trip, flying patterns?
5-How many trips and Flight miles and segments a year?
if you respond to this, I'll try to be of more help.

welcome to FT.
