I have been keeping empirical observations of my FF data for quite some time now and this year I have done what I considered impossible. I have earned over 1 million ff miles and points since January 1st. 663k are miles and 379k hotel points.

For everyone who will say I should be spending them I am.

While the separate things are nice, you didn't state what hotel points!

If you're talking about most any other hotel points other than SPG (Starwood), which are the only ones that I know to convert about 1:1 to miles, the average value of hotel points (with programs such as HHonors, Priority Club, Choice Priveleges, etc) is about 1/5 that of miles, since it takes 5 points to covert to 1 mile.

And even if you don't convert, it's hard to find anywhere near as high-valued a use for a hotel point as a mile that's used to redeem for long-haul international flights in above-economy classes.

Therefore I think it's misleading to add them together and treat them as one number. After all, if you had earned 1,047,967 miles and 0 points that would be a completely different valued than if you had earned 0 miles and 1,047,967 HH/PC/etc points.

IMHO, adding them together is sort of as if you had said "I earned 300,000 in a combination of US dollars and Japanese Yen so far this year." In USD, that would be very impressive; in Yen it would be nothing to brag about, and without knowing the exact ratio the sum would be just as meaningless as the sum in the title of this thread.

Can you tell us how many BIS miles on AA and how many BIS miles on others?

So if you really believe that why did you quote me so that if I delete everything it will persist in your post? Though I do take your point in that I'm being braggadocios but most people outside of FT fail to grasp the accomplishment and I felt the need to celebrate it.

The hotel side is not that hard to imagine - an HH Diamond can easily be cranking 40 points per dollar on average with Points+Points, credit card, the 2x/3x promos, and a myriad of other HH promos that have been going on this year. (Some folks had stays there were cranking out a lot more, but on average, across many properties, 40 per dollar is very doable.) So...that's under $10,000 in hotel stays, assuming he doesn't use his HH Amex for other purchases.

As for the air miles, that's obviously a lot of flying - unless there is some Pudding Guy type of partner activity going on, which it doesn't sound like there is. Maybe 200k BIS, 250k in "regular" bonuses (100% elite bonus, booking, echeckin, etc.), and 150k in other promos, partner activity, credit card usage, etc.

My point is less about how Dudemon actually did it and more about how it's actually pretty doable for any road warrior who holds a couple of good elite levels in the various hotel and airline programs.
